  • Publication number: 20130248459
Abstract: Blood or other fluid can be treated with UV or other light, such as using an apparatus that can include a cuvette. The cuvette can include an elongated tube configured to permit passage of light of a desired wavelength into the tube, which can include a fluid inlet at a first end and a fluid outlet at a longitudinally opposing second end. A turbulator within the tube can include a helical baffle segment configured to induce mixing and rotation of fluid flow about a longitudinal axis of the tube. The method can include passing a fluid, from a fluid inlet at a first end of an elongated tube to a fluid outlet at a longitudinally opposing second end of the elongated tube. Mixing and rotational flow of the fluid can be induced within the tube about a longitudinal axis of the tube and light of a desired wavelength can be permitted into the tube.

  • Publication number: 20120164302
Abstract: A method and system for efficiently producing a fermentative product alcohol such as butanol utilizing in situ product extraction are provided. The efficiency is obtained through separating undissolved solids after liquefying a given feedstock to create a feedstock and prior to fermentation, for example, through centrifugation. Removal of the undissolved solids avoids problems associated with having the undissolved solids present during in situ production extraction, and thereby increases the efficiency of the alcohol production.

  • Patent number: 8003356
Abstract: Methods for the microbial production of para-hydroxycinnamic acid (pHCA) and cinnamic acid (CA) are provided. Microbes producing either tyrosine or phenylalanine are grown in the presence of either tyrosine ammonium lyase or phenylalanine ammonium lyase respectively where some part of the fermentation is accomplished at alkaline pH. The process results in greater yields and higher rates of para-hydroxycinnamic acid (pHCA) and cinnamic acid (CA) production as compared with fermentation exclusively at physiological pH.

  • Patent number: 7946684
Abstract: A method of manufacture of printers and printheads formed of a number of modules mounted on a chassis. The modules and chassis are formed with a number of alignment features which engage with one another to form elastic interference couplings. By arranging a number n of such couplings for each module, the variance in positional error of each module with respect to the chassis can be made significantly less than the alignment error of the alignment features themselves, by the process of Average Elastic Alignment. The elastic interference couplings can advantageously be made to form a sealed coupling for the supply of ink from the chassis to each module.
