  • Publication number: 20210023800
Abstract: A method for designing fiber-composite parts in which part performance and manufacturing efficiency can be traded-off against one another to provide an “optimized” design for a desired use case. In some embodiments, the method involves generating an idealized fiber map, wherein the orientation of fibers throughout the prospective part align with the anticipated load conditions throughout the part, and then modifying the idealized fiber map by various fabrication constraints to generate a process-compensated preform map.

  • Patent number: 10896002
Abstract: Apparatus and method for managing metadata in a data storage device such as a solid-state drive (SSD). In some embodiments, a write stream is formed of user data blocks to be sequentially written to a non-volatile memory (NVM). An entry of a reverse directory footer is generated for each user data block in the write stream to describe a physical address in the NVM at which the corresponding user data block is to be stored. The entries are accumulated in a buffer memory until the total count of entries reaches a predetermined threshold and a complete footer data structure is formed. The complete footer data structure is thereafter inserted into the write stream for writing, with the data blocks, to the NVM. The complete footer data structure has an overall size that corresponds to an overall size of each of the user data blocks.

  • Publication number: 20200398460
Abstract: A multi-part compression mold for forming a complex part having a desired fiber alignment, and methods therefor, are disclosed. The multi-part mold comprises at least three sections. Specific arrangements of fiber-bundle-based preforms are introduced to more than one of the mold sections of the multi-part mold, and subjected to compression molding. The arrangements of preforms, in conjunction with the multi-part mold, result in a complex part having fibers that substantially align with anticipated principle stress vectors that arise in the complex part, when in use.

  • Patent number: 10872015
Abstract: A data storage system can connect a plurality of remote hosts to a plurality of die sets resident in a semiconductor memory. Execution of at least one data access command addressed by a remote host of the plurality of remote hosts can occur prior to a power interruption event being detected for at least one die set of the plurality of die sets. • Patent number: 10864580
Abstract: An example method includes performing a machining operation by providing linear movement of a tool along a feed axis relative to a workpiece while superimposing oscillation of the tool onto the feed axis and providing rotation of the tool relative to the workpiece. During an optimization mode, the machining operation is performed on a first workpiece portion while providing the linear movement at an initial feed velocity, and sequentially superimposing the oscillating at a plurality of different frequencies. An optimal oscillation frequency is determined from the plurality of different frequencies which causes the tool to apply less force to the first workpiece portion at the initial feed velocity than others of the frequencies. During a run mode, the machining operation is performed on a second workpiece portion having a same composition as the first workpiece portion while superimposing the oscillation at the optimal oscillation frequency.

  • Publication number: 20200361122
Abstract: A preform-charge fixture creates a preform charge, which is a partially consolidated assemblage of preforms that can be efficiently transferred to a mold to create a finished part in a molding process, such as compression molding. In the illustrative embodiment, the preform-charge fixture includes peripheral cleats that are movable towards a central cleat to create a small gap therebetween that receives and constrains preforms in a desired position. The fixture also includes clamps, which are operable to engage an uppermost layer of preforms in the gap and apply a slight amount of downward pressure thereto to assure that the preforms are properly seated. The fixture also accommodates an energy source that heats the preforms so that, in conjunction with downforce applied by the clamps and/or gravity, the preforms can be tacked together, forming the preform charge.

  • Patent number: 10839149
Abstract: Automatic generation of document templates based on recognized composition element patterns in a group of clustered documents is provided. Composition elements used in documents are typically unique to a particular user or to a group of users. An automated template generation system detects composition element patterns in documents associated with a given user. Sequences of composition elements from one document are aligned with sequences of composition elements of one or more other documents. The aligned sequences are scored to generate a document distance matrix. The documents are clustered together based on the alignment scores and a document template is generated for each corresponding cluster of documents. In one or more aspects, selecting a document template and updating it results in a modified document template or, in certain cases, a new document template. The generated document templates are displayed in a user interface for selection by a user.
