  • Publication number: 20120165734
Abstract: Devices, systems, and associated methods that facilitate the injection and/or aspiration of precisely controlled volumes of fluids at precisely controlled rates are provided. In some implementations, an apparatus may include a syringe and a lead screw connected to a plunger of the syringe. A ratchet gear may be connected to the lead screw. A mechanism may also be included to oscillate a frame in a direction perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the lead screw such that one or more pawls of the frame engage the teeth of the ratchet gear in a manner that results in rotation of the ratchet gear in a single direction for controlled linear displacement of the plunger.

  • Publication number: 20120165724
Abstract: Hydraulic vitrectomy probes and methods and systems associated therewith are discussed. Example hydraulic vitrectomy probes may include a pressure multiplier that is operable to output a hydraulic pressure at a multiple of a received pneumatic pressure. Because of the incompressible nature of liquid, hydraulic vitrectomy probes are, among other things, more responsive, may be operated at higher cutting rates, provide improved patient safety, and have a form factor (e.g., size and/or shape) that may be more easily maneuvered by a surgeon.

  • Patent number: 8206040
Abstract: An accessory is adapted to removably couple to a laser source connector separate from a fiber connector. The accessory includes a first contact element configured to form an electrical connection to a first portion of the laser source connector. The accessory further includes a second contact element configured to form an electrical connection to a second portion of the laser source connector. The second portion of the laser source connector is electrically insulated from the first portion of the laser source connector. The accessory also includes a network connected to the first contact element and the second contact element. The network establishes a defined electrical characteristic between the first and second contact element when a fiber connector is connected to laser source connector.

  • Publication number: 20100100058
Abstract: Embodiments of a micro-vitreoretinal trocar blade may have a top surface and a bottom surface that converge to form cutting edges. Each of the top surface and bottom surface have a large rounded apex to maximize the area of the blade. Each surface also has concave regions that may form the cutting edges. Advancing the MVR trocar blade into tissue causes the tissue to contact the apexes of the top and bottom surfaces. The apexes draw the tissue into contact with the cutting edges. The cutting edges incise the tissue such that the incision is sized to accommodate a trocar cannula. The geometry of the top surface and bottom surface ensure that the features of the blade do not protrude radially outside of the diametral envelope of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 7529962
Abstract: In one general embodiment, a design structure is provided including a first delay line having at least one buffer, the first delay line being for shifting a clock, a second delay line having at least one buffer, the second delay line being for shifting data, and a logic block adapted to identify a predetermined section of a data window. Additionally, the logic block monitors a clock signal along predetermined portions of the delay line to identify the predetermined section of the data window. Once the predetermined section of the data window is identified the logic block forwards the data associated with the predetermined section to an output pin, with the proviso that no memory element is present, and with the proviso that no feedback line is present.

  • Patent number: 7375889
Abstract: A method for resetting a polarization controller includes determining that the phase magnitude is associated with a first range of phase angles and generating a first control signal having a first characteristic if the phase magnitude is increasing, and generating the first control signal having a second characteristic if the phase magnitude is decreasing. The phase magnitude associated with a second range of phase angles is determined. The first control signal having the second characteristic is generated if the phase magnitude is increasing. The first control signal having the first characteristic is generated if the phase magnitude is decreasing.

  • Patent number: 7364234
Abstract: A swivel mechanism for a vehicle seat includes a base plate configured to be fixed relative to the vehicle and to provide support to the vehicle seat. The vehicle seat is mounted to a seat mounting plate having a first side configured to receive the vehicle seat and a second side opposite the first side, mechanically coupled to the base plate. The seat mounting plate and the base plate are mechanically coupled so that when the seat mounting plate is rotated about an axis of the base plate the seat mounting plate translates in a plane that is substantially perpendicular to the axis of the base plate. A locking recess is formed in one of the base plate or the seat mounting plate, and is adapted to receive a locking pawl pivotably mounted to the opposite one of the base plate or the seat mounting plate. The locking recess is biased toward the locking recess such that when the locking pawl and locking recess are engaged, the seat mounting plate is inhibited from movement relative to the base plate.
