  • Publication number: 20120086354
Abstract: A circuit for a dimmer system is disclosed, in which a phase-cut dimmer output signal is converted to a dimming control level signal. The phase-cut dimmer output signal is used to generated a pulse modulated signal indicative of the duty cycle of the phase cut dimmer output signal, and the pulse modulated signal is directly converted to a piece-wise linear dimming control level signal. By directly converting the pulse modulated signal to a piece-wise linear dimming control level signal, no further processing is necessary to produce a dimming signal which closely resembles the ideal logarithmic response of the human eye. A corresponding method for a dimmer system is also disclosed, as is a dimmer system.

  • Patent number: 7950064
Abstract: A system, method, and program product is provided that operates when opening a word processing document that includes document content inserted at various insertion points within the document. The document is opened by a user that corresponds to a particular user identifier. The comments included in the document include recipient identifiers. A first set of comments are selected where the user's identifier is included in the recipient identifiers of the corresponding comments, and a second set of comments are selected where the user's identifier is not included in the recipient identifiers of the corresponding comments. The word processor displays the first set of comments at their respective insertion points within the document content and does not present the second set of comments.

  • Patent number: 7855891
Abstract: A housing for an outside plant telecommunication equipment (OSP) which uses modular heat sink assemblies. OSP housings contain electronic circuit boards on which are mounted electrical components that generate heat. Thermal conductors or mesas contact the electrical components to conduct heat from the components to the environment. Rather than create single purpose housings with cast thermal conductors, the improved housing uses heat sink plates which can easily be swapped out to accommodate a variety of electronic circuit boards that might be needed within a general purpose housing. Together with faster turnaround time to create a new design for a housing, lower manufacturing and inventory costs result.

  • Publication number: 20090031336
Abstract: A method, medium and implementing computer system are provided in which the aggregate preferences of a gathered group of individuals in a certain proximity and with respect to a predetermined perceivable and controllable function are ascertained. Individual preferences are processed to obtain a group preference and if the group preference meets predetermined criteria, the group preference is implemented with respect to the controllable function. In a specific example, movie preview playlists are modified by a control server according to the ascertained preferences of the particular group to whom the movie previews are being presented. In another example, the ambient temperature of a room in which a group of individuals is gathered is adjusted by a temperature-control server in response to the polled and ascertained preferences of each of the individuals.

  • Patent number: 6429132
Abstract: A combination CMP-etch method for forming a thin planar layer over the surface of a device includes the steps of providing a substrate including a plurality of surface projections defining gaps therebetween, forming an etchable layer on the substrate, performing a CMP process on the etchable layer to form a planar layer having a first thickness in excess of 1,000 Angstroms, and etching the planar layer to a second thickness less than 1,000 Angstroms. In a particular method, the step of forming the etchable layer includes the steps of forming an etch resistant layer on the substrate, forming a fill layer on the etch-resistant layer, etching the fill layer to expose portions of the etch-resistant layer overlying the projections, and to leave a portion of the fill layer in the gaps, and forming the etchable layer on the exposed portions of the etch-resistant layer and the fill layer.
