Abstract: Processes and compositions are described for the use in foodstuff flavor and aroma, tobacco flavor and aroma and perfume and perfumed article aroma augmenting, modifying, altering and enhancing compositions and as foodstuff, chewing gum, toothpaste, medicinal product, tobacco, perfume and perfumed article aroma imparting materials of acetyl hydrindacenes and acetyl indanes and mixtures of same, said acetyl indanes and acetyl hydrindacenes having the structures: ##STR1## and existing in the liquid phase at ambient temperature and pressure.

Abstract: Described is a process for preparing several substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkyl acyl alkanoates defined according to the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 taken together complete a cycloalkyl moiety or methyl, dimethyl or trimethyl substituted cycloalkyl moiety containing five or six carbon atoms in the ring and wherein R.sub.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 lower alkyl and R.sub.4 is methyl or hydrogen by reacting a compound having the generic structure: ##STR2## in an aqueous silver-ion containing solution having a weakly acidic pH at elevated temperatures.

Abstract: Described is a process for preparing hydrogenated derivatives of 2,6,6-trimethyl cyclohexene derivatives by means of treating said derivatives with hydrogen in the presence of a supported palladium catalyst such as palladium-on-calcium carbonate or palladium-on-barium sulfate in the presence of a quinoline activator. The resulting products are useful for their organoleptic properties as foodstuff flavorants and flavor enhancers, perfume composition ingredients, perfumed article ingredients and tobacco flavorants and flavor enhancers.

Abstract: Described is the genus of compounds defined according to the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are the same or different and each represents methyl or hydrogen with the proviso that one of R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is methyl and the other two of R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are hydrogen which have been found to be useful in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of perfumes and perfumed articles as well as colognes and, in addition, in combatting tobacco beetles of the species Lasioderma serricorne (F.). Also described are novel processes for preparing such cyclohexyl phenethylether derivatives by reacting cyclohexene having the structure: ##STR2## with a phenethyl alcohol derivative having the structure: ##STR3## in the presence of an acid catalyst.

Abstract: Described are 2,4,6-Trimethylcyclohexanemethanol derivatives having the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein the dashed line represents a carbon-carbon single bond or a carbon-carbon double bond and R is hydrogen or acetyl. The 2,4,6-Trimethylcyclohexanemethanol and derivatives thereof are useful in perfumery and foodstuff, medicinal product and smoking tobacco flavors.

Abstract: Described is the use for augmenting or enhancing the aroma or taste of smoking tobaccos and smoking tobacco articles of a derivative of a 2-oxabicyclo [2.2.2]octane which is 1,3,5,5-tetramethyl-2-oxabicyclo [2.2.2]octane.

Abstract: Described are processes for augmenting or enhancing the aroma or taste of a smoking tobacco comprising the step of intimately admixing with smoking tobacco an aroma or taste augmenting or enhancing quantity of at least one substance selected from the group consisting of:A. A composition of matter consisting essentially of cis-3-hexenal, cis-3-hexenyl-cis-3-hexenoate, trans-2-hexenal, and cis-3-hexenol;B. A composition of matter consisting essentially of cis-3-hexenal, cis-3-hexenyl-cis-3-hexenoate, cis-3-hexenyl formate and trans-2-hexenal;C. A composition of matter consisting essentially of cis-3-hexenal, cis-3-hexenyl-cis-3-hexenoate, cis-3-hexenol, cis-3-hexenyl formate and trans-2-hexenal; andD. Cis-3-hexenyl methyl ether.Also described are smoking tobacco compositions produced according to the above process.
