  • Patent number: 8186097
Abstract: The present invention is a culling device that comprises a cable element, a retainer element and a floating element. When in use, the device is attached to a fish by way of the retainer element, which may be a clip, hook or other suitable element. The cable element is the link between the retainer element and the floating element. The floating element provides buoyancy to the device as a whole, and serves the purpose of indicating the weight of the fish to which the device is attached. The present invention further comprises a kit, the kit potentially including a plurality of devices, a scale, or some combination thereof. The present invention further comprises a method of using a device or kit. The present invention further comprises embodiments where a device disclosed herein is used on an animal other than a fish.

  • Publication number: 20110162060
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for improving a firewall implemented at a WLAN infrastructure device (WID). The WID includes a stateful firewall that implements firewall rules based on an ESSID of the WID to specify whether traffic is allowed to or from the ESSID. For example, in one implementation of such a firewall rule, packets that are required to be sent out on all wired ports can be blocked from being flooded out on WLANs (e.g., the packet is allowed to pass only to the wired ports). A method and system are provided for preventing a malicious wireless client device (WCD) that is transmitting undesirable traffic from using RF resources by deauthenticating the malicious WCD to remove it from the WLAN and blacklisting it to prevent it from rejoining the WLAN for a time period. Method and systems are also provided for either “on-demand” and/or predicatively communicating state information regarding an existing firewall session.

  • Patent number: 7849511
Abstract: A user may enable features of a software application installed on a processing device only when the processing device is at a location for which the processing device is authorized to use the software application. If the processing device is offline, the processing device may refer to data in a component of the processing device to determine whether the data includes an authorized value. If processing device determines that the data has the authorized value, then the features of the installed software application may be enabled. In some embodiments, data with respect to unauthorized use of the software application may be recorded. In other embodiments, a determination may be made regarding whether a processing device, associated with an entity, violates a license agreement of the entity with respect to an installed software application. If the license agreement of the entity is determined to be violated, then information may be recorded.

  • Patent number: 7809538
Abstract: Systems and techniques, including computer programs, for monitoring and controlling thermal recovery involve generating input parameters for use in real time monitoring and controlling of a thermal recovery operation for a reservoir. The input parameters to a thermal generator are generated using a reservoir simulator and an economic model, and the input parameters have a corresponding predicted output of the thermal recovery operation. Data indicative of actual output from the reservoir is received, and the reservoir simulator is automatically updated based on a comparison of the data indicative of the actual output with the predicted output.

  • Publication number: 20100165978
Abstract: Method and apparatus for providing an automated shopping service in a telecommunication system are described. In some examples, a call is received via the telecommunication system initiated by a caller. An electronic prompt is played to the caller. An electronic response is received from the caller in response to the electronic prompt. At least one item requested by the caller is automatically detected in the electronic response. A search is performed of at least one shopping source to obtain information associated with the at least one item. The information is sent to towards the caller.

  • Publication number: 20090042645
Abstract: A gaming system including a central server linked to a plurality of gaming devices. The central server tracks the occurrences of one or more suitable events occurring at or in association with one or more gaming devices in the gaming system. Upon the central server determining that the quantity of occurred events tracked has reached a designated quantity or threshold, (i.e., a triggering event has occurred), the gaming system provides a progressive award to one of the players at one of the gaming devices in the gaming system.
