Abstract: A two-piece, press-twist, child resistant closure is formed with upwardly extending lugs, protrusions, ribs or channels on the upper surface of the outer closure member. The lugs assist in holding the outer closure against rotation while being axially depressed to engage the inner closure so that rotation of the container relative to the closure will effect removal of the closure. The closure system serves as a convenient system for arthritic or manually handicapped adults to use and still retain the child resistant nature of the closure for bottles containing harmful products.

Abstract: A package including a container with a threaded finish and a molded plastic closure that is sealingly applied to the finish. The closure has a skirt portion, and the skirt portion has one or more apertures in it, at a location or locations near the top of the closure. Adjacent each aperture in the skirt portion of the closure the closure has a flexible tab which is frangibly attached to the skirt portion and which extends inwardly and upwardly from the skirt portion to engage a radially projecting bead on the finish of the container, at a location above the thread on the finish of the container. Upon the first removal or attempted removal of the closure from the container, each flexible tab is broken away from the skirt portion of the closure by the flexible tab with the radially projecting bead on the closure finish, and this damage to the closure is visible through the aperture that the flexible tab is near to provide a visual indication of the possible tampering with the package or its contents.

Abstract: A closure system for threaded containers wherein the closure is of the dispensing type and is child resistant in two aspects. Interengaging lugs on the closure skirt and container neck are so arranged that a squeezing force is required to permit the closure being unthreaded from the container. A dispensing opening in the closure top is closed by a hinged cap that meets with the upper rim of the closure in a parting line. At this parting line both the hinged cap and the top of the closure have matching protruberances that require the squeezing of the lower one in order to push up or release the cap. The plastic material of the cap and the closure are sufficiently strong that a child is unable to flex or squeeze the closure enough to open the cap or unthread the closure from the container.

Abstract: A molded plastic closure for a beverage container, the closure having a shell with a top panel and a depending skirt, the shell being molded in one piece from a hard thermoplastic material. The closure is provided with an annular flange which extends from the underside of the top panel and which forms an annular space with the inside of the skirt. A liner is formed in situ within the closure by compression molding from a compression moldable soft, rubbery thermoplastic material, the underside of the top panel and the inside of the annular flange serving as molding surfaces. The annular flange is supported against lateral loads by a series of ribs which extend between the annular flange and the depending skirt. The liner is interlocked with the annular flange by interengaging ribs and recesses. Both a top seal only closure for non-pressurized beverages and a top and side seal closure for pressurized beverages are disclosed.

Abstract: A tamper indicating package including a container having a neck with an external thread and an annular retaining bead below the thread and a plastic closure comprising a base wall, a peripheral skirt and a tamper indicating band connected to the free edge of the peripheral skirt by integral bridges. The tamper indicating band includes an integral portion that extend below the annular bead on the container such that when the closure is unthreaded, the bridges are broken. The band includes integral circumferentially spaced supports that extend axially toward the free edge of the peripheral skirt and the bridges extend from the supports to the free edge. Each bridge includes a generally axial leading edge and a generally axial trailing edge. The upper edge of leading edge in the direction of unthreading intersects the lower edge of the skirt at a sharp corner to define a stress concentration point at the edge of the skirt. The lower edge of the leading edge of each bridge intersects the band along a radius.

Abstract: A tamper-indicating closure system used with a container that has a sealing disc over the neck of the container. The closure threads onto the container neck but is held against threading down below a predetermined level by a rupturable tear band between the bottom of the closure and the shoulder of the container. A pourout dispenser feature is incorporated in the closure and after the tear band is removed, the continued threading-on of the closure will cause a member in the closure to rupture the sealing disc and the contents of the container can be poured therefrom through the closure. If the tear band is intact, tampering has not occurred.
