  • Patent number: 7057584
Abstract: An image display method and system for a plasma display panel. An image of each field displayed on the plasma display panel corresponding to input image signals is divided into sub-fields. Weighting values of the sub-fields are combined to display grays. The sub-fields are divided into three continuous groups. Sub-fields corresponding to a Least Significant Bit (LSB) and a LSB+1 of each sub-field data are included in a second sub-field, which is positioned in a middle of the three consecutive groups with respect to time. Therefore, a time difference between the LSB and the LSB+1 of the sub-field data with respect to images displayed by 50 Hz Phase Alternating by Line (PAL) image signals is reduced such that contour noise between low gray regions is diminished.

  • Publication number: 20060038806
Abstract: In a plasma display, pairs of first and second electrodes are divided into groups. In a subfield, a light-emitting cell is set from among discharge cells of a first group from among the groups, and the light-emitting cell is sustain-discharged for a first number of times. A light-emitting cell is set from among discharge cells of a second group, and the light-emitting cell is sustain-discharged for a first number of times. The light-emitting cell of the first group is sustain-discharged for a second number of times, and the light-emitting cell of the second group is sustain-discharged for a third number of times. The sum of the first number and the second number equals the third number so that the light-emitting cells of the first and second groups are sustained discharged for an equal number of times.

  • Publication number: 20050264483
Abstract: The present invention relates to a plasma display panel driving method and apparatus for reducing subfield position variation between display frames by arranging an idle period among the subfields. The subfields included in the frame may be divided into at least two subfield groups with reference to a predetermined weight value at which flicker may occur. An idle period, which is substantially a residual time of the frame excluding the subfields, may be arranged between two divided subfield groups. Accordingly, flicker caused by the variation of the number of subfields between frames can be prevented because of the reduced positional variation of the subfields.

  • Publication number: 20050116886
Abstract: In an address driving circuit including a power recovery circuit, an energy charged in an external capacitor is established to be greater than an energy discharged from the external capacitor. As a result, a voltage of the external capacitor is increased to an address voltage to automatically stop a power recovery operation in a pattern having few switching variations. Further, the voltage of the external capacitor reaches an equilibrium state between half the address voltage and the address voltage to perform the power recovery operation in a pattern having many switching variations. In addition, the controller can stop the power recovery operation in a pattern having few switching variations such as the full white pattern.

  • Publication number: 20050110812
Abstract: A plasma display panel (PDP) driver and PDP gray scale representation method for applying a sustain pulse based subfield arrangement and address light for representation of gray scales and improving representation performance of gray scales. Inverse gamma correction is performed on input image signals so as to represent inverse gamma correction gray scales corresponding to a number of sustain pulses and address light. The inverse gamma correction gray scale is inverted into a subfield based on the number of sustain pulses so as to represent the gray scale through address light and light caused by the number of sustain pulses.

  • Publication number: 20050057448
Abstract: A method for controlling address power consumption on a PDP is disclosed. Image data to be displayed on the PDP are converted into subfield data, and the subfield data are analyzed to generate a a variation value of the data for each subfield. An address power recovery circuit operates or ceases operating in one or more subfields based on the variation value of the data associated with each subfield. Image data is determined to be a normal mode or a specific mode based on the generated variation value of the image data, and the number of the subfields displayed on the PDP during the specific mode is set to be less than the number of subfields displayed during the normal mode.

  • Publication number: 20050052363
Abstract: In a method for representing gray scales on a plasma display panel (PDP), and a PDP driver using the method, a load ratio of input video signals is generated. When the load ratio is low, a plurality of subfields is generated where the weight of the least significant bit (LSB) subfield from among the subfields may be minimized, (wherein the LSB subfield is a subfield with the minimum weight from among the subfields), and the minimum number of sustain pulses may be allocated to the LSB subfield.

  • Publication number: 20040222949
Abstract: A PDP address data processor, a method thereof, and a recording medium for storing a program used to perform the method. The address data processor generates subfield data corresponding to RGB input video data, divides them into two sets of subfield data, and stores them in a frame memory using rising and falling edges of a reference clock signal of a frame memory. The address data processor reads and arranges the stored subfield data using the rising and falling edges to generate address data for representing gray on the PDP. The address data processor uses an RGB mixing algorithm for selecting two different video data from among the RGB input video data to select video data, and generates the subfield data corresponding to the selected video data.

  • Patent number: 6784617
Abstract: A plasma display panel includes a substrate, a dielectric layer formed on a top surface of the substrate, and partitions spaced a predetermined distance apart from each other and having a snaking or meandering shape. The partitions form channels having main discharge spaces and auxiliary discharge spaces alternately arranged and connected to each other. Red (R), green (G) and blue (B) phosphors are coated on the main discharge spaces in a triangular shape and where G and R phosphors are aligned with each other in a horizontal direction. The thicknesses of partitions forming the main discharge spaces where the R and G phosphors are coated are greater than thicknesses of the partitions forming the main discharge spaces where the B phosphor is coated.
