  • Publication number: 20030097629
Abstract: A method for retransmitting coded bits by a transmitter in response to a retransmission request from a receiver in a mobile communication system. The method comprises determining a modulation technique to be used at retransmission as a modulation technique having a lower modulation order than a modulation technique used at initial transmission; determining a puncturing pattern according to an HARQ (Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request) type, and selecting as many coded bits as the number of coded bits that can be symbol-mapped by the determined modulation technique, among the coded bits punctured by the determined puncturing pattern; and symbol-mapping the selected coded bits by the determined modulation technique, and transmitting the symbol-mapped coded bits to the receiver.

  • Publication number: 20030088822
Abstract: A transmission/reception apparatus and method for performing packet retransmission considering a channel environment in a CDMA mobile communication system. • Publication number: 20030081576
Abstract: A transmitting/receiving apparatus and method for packet retransmission in a mobile communication system. Upon request for a retransmission from a receiver, a transmitter generates first coded bits by inverting initially transmitted coded bits, generates second coded bits by separating the initially transmitted coded bits into a first bit group having a relatively high priority and a second bit group having a relatively low priority and exchanging the first bit group with the second bit group, and generates third coded bits by inverting the exchanged coded bits. The transmitter selects one of the first coded bits, the second coded bits according to the sequence number of a retransmission request received from the receiver, and the third coded bits and maps the selected coded bits to modulation symbols. The transmitter then transmits the modulation symbols to the receiver.

  • Publication number: 20030081690
Abstract: A data transmitting/receiving apparatus and method for improving the reliability of data bits in a CDMA mobile communication system. High-priority bits are mapped to a high-reliability bit position and low-priority bits, to a low-reliability bit position in symbols. Thus system performance is improved at a transmission.

  • Publication number: 20030076870
Abstract: A method for retransmitting coded bits by a transmitter in response to a retransmission request from a receiver in a mobile communication system which separates coded bits output from an encoder into coded bits with higher priority and coded bits with lower priority, and transmits from the transmitter to the receiver a stream of symbols obtained by symbol mapping the coded bits by a specific modulation technique. The method comprises determining orthogonal codes available for retransmission; separating the coded bits with higher priority and the coded bits with lower priority into a plurality of sub-packets with a given size, and selecting a part of the sub-packets or sub-packets to be repeatedly transmitted, depending on the determined number of available orthogonal codes; and transmitting a stream of symbols obtained by symbol-mapping coded bits of the selected sub-packets by the specific modulation technique, with the determined available orthogonal codes.

  • Publication number: 20030072286
Abstract: A transmitting/receiving apparatus and method for packet retransmission in a mobile communication system. Upon request for a retransmission from a receiver, a transmitter inverts initially transmitted coded bits if the retransmission is odd-numbered for the same data, modulates the inverted bits, and transmits the modulated bits to the receiver. Then the receiver recovers the coded bits by demodulation. If the coded bits are retransmitted an odd number of times, the receiver decodes the coded bits after inversion. Thus the error probabilities of initial transmission bits and retransmission bits are averaged in effect and decoding performance is improved.

  • Publication number: 20030072292
Abstract: Disclosed is a transmitting/receiving apparatus for packet retransmission in a mobile communication system. Upon a retransmission request by a receiver, a transmitter rearranges coded bits and maps the rearranged bits to modulation symbols. The modulation symbols of a retransmission are transmitted with different reliabilities from those of an initial transmission. A receiver demodulates received data and rearranges the coded bits in an original order before decoding if the coded bits have been retransmitted.

  • Publication number: 20030031233
Abstract: Disclosed is a data transportation/reception apparatus and method in a mobile communication system. The data transportation apparatus and method divides transport data bits into bits having higher priority and bits having lower priority, maps the bits having higher priority to bit positions having higher reliability, and maps the bits having lower priority to bit positions having lower reliability. The data reception apparatus and method demodulates received modulated symbols, divides the demodulated coded bits into two coded bit groups according to priority, deinterleaving the coded bit groups using different deinterleavers, and decodes the deinterleaved coded bits.

  • Publication number: 20030021240
Abstract: An apparatus for retransmitting data at a retransmission request from a receiver by a transmitter in a CDMA mobile communication system including a turbo encoder with a given coding rate and initially transmitting systematic bits and parity bits obtained by encoding the data by the turbo encoder using one modulation mode among a plurality of modulation modes. A controller determines a modulation mode to be used between the transmitter and the receiver in response to the retransmission request. A distributor distributes coded bits obtained by encoding the data at the coding rate into systematic bits and parity bits. A selector selects coded bits transmittable by the determined modulation mode among the systematic bits and the parity bits at the initial transmission, if the determined modulation mode is different from the modulation mode used at initial transmission. A modulator modulates the transmittable coded bits into modulated symbols according to the determined modulation mode.

  • Publication number: 20030007476
Abstract: Disclosed is a data transmission/reception apparatus and method for minimizing decoding errors during high-speed packet transmission in a CDMA mobile communication system. When retransmitting data in the Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (“H-ARQ”) technique, the data transmission/reception apparatus and method performs symbol mapping on coded bits to be retransmitted by allocating different reliabilities to the coded bits according to the number of retransmissions, thus resulting in an improvement of system performance.
