  • Patent number: 9382115
Abstract: Gas-to-liquids processes for treating natural gas, including the steps of subjecting the natural gas to expansion through a flow restrictor so as to undergo cooling through the Joule Thomson effect. The processes then separate the resulting liquids from the remaining natural gas and processing the natural gas to form a synthesis gas. The synthesis gas is subjected to Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and the output from the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is separated into a hydrocarbon product and an aqueous phase and the aqueous phase is steam stripped to extract the oxygenates which are then injected into the natural gas stream upstream of the flow restrictor.

  • Publication number: 20160081313
Abstract: The subject invention provides materials and methods for producing animals with short hair length. In a preferred embodiment, this is accomplished by altering in the animal the nucleotide sequence that encodes the prolactin receptor (PRLR) protein such that a truncated version of the protein is produced. Advantageously, and surprisingly, the truncated protein produced according to the subject invention retains lactogenic functionality, but causes the animal to have a short-hair coat.

  • Publication number: 20160044901
Abstract: Disclosed are materials and methods for creating customizable traits in animals. In the demonstration of the principle of the subject invention, a keratin-14 specific promoter is used with red fluorescent protein in the loxp cassette, dominant black (?G23) beta defensin 103 in the pigment cassette, and an SV40 (with intron) polyadenylation sequence. When Cre recombinase (or HTNCre) is applied to the animal's skin in a carrier base (e.g., lipid bilayers), fur is permanently genetically modified to turn back in the shape in which the HTNCre was applied.

  • Publication number: 20150328044
Abstract: A guide device for assisting the application of a liquid from a dispenser to the eye of a subject has a mount to hold the liquid dispenser in the guide device, a rest to align the guide device with the subject head, and an indicator, selectively visible to indicate when the guide device is tilted at or beyond a minimum guide angle. Preferably, the indicator is selectively visible to indicate when the guide device is tilted at, or between, the minimum guide angle and a maximum guide angle. Said minimum guide angle corresponds with a minimum predetermined tilt of the subject head suitable for delivery of the liquid from the dispenser. The maximum guide angle corresponds with a maximum predetermined tilt of the subject head suitable for delivery of the liquid.

  • Publication number: 20150275231
Abstract: The subject invention provides materials and methods for improving animal resistance to infection by intestinal viruses. This is accomplished by interfering with intestinal virus uptake employing methods that (1) reduce virus binding to receptors in the intestinal lining; (2) introduce decoy receptors expressed in the mammary gland leading to decoy secretion in milk; (3) produce decoy receptors by a variety of protein synthesis methods to provide decoy receptors to non-genetically modified animals, including humans; and/or (4) administer a vector to a non-genetically modified animal which vector has been genetically modified to produce a decoy receptor.

  • Patent number: 8945488
Abstract: A gas-to-liquids process and plant for treating natural gas, in which the natural gas is subjected to expansion through a flow restrictor so as to undergo cooling through the Joule Thomson effect, enables liquids to be separated from the gas stream. The natural gas may be cooled before it reaches the flow restrictor by heat exchange with fluid that has passed through the flow restrictor. This decreases the proportion of longer-chain hydrocarbons in the natural gas, which may simplify subsequent processing, and may enable the size of the plant to be decreased.
