  • Patent number: 10824964
Abstract: A system capable of identifying and locking resources (e.g., items, tickets, etc.) may map resources to a bit vector and use bit vectors to efficiently identify and lock the resources. For example, tickets to a concert may be mapped to a bit vector and the system may generate an availability bit vector indicating an availability of the seat locations. Using bit vectors, the system may easily identify available seat locations that satisfy a search request and may select from the available seat locations using an optimization technique. For example, the system may select groups of seats that are next to unavailable seat locations or avoid selling groups of seats that would leave only a single seat available. Thus, the system may avoid fragmentation of ticket sales while improving a latency associated with searching for and reserving seat locations.

  • Patent number: 10783016
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for implementing a coordinator within a coordinated environment, which environment includes set of coordinated devices managed by the coordinator. The coordinator can be provisioned with a set of tasks, each task corresponding to a segment of code that can be executed by the coordinator, such as to manage the coordinated devices. To assist in execution of the tasks, the coordinator can include a remote interface that enables retrieval of task calls from an external system, such as an external on-demand code execution environment. The remote interface may periodically retrieve calls from the external system, and generate corresponding call messages on the coordinator to cause executions of called tasks. The remote interface can further obtain outputs of such executions, and report those outputs to the external system.

  • Patent number: 10778585
Abstract: Compute hosts and a routing system may be used for connection and application state migration for uninterrupted service availability. In response to an indication to transfer a connection from a particular compute host to another compute host, the particular compute host obtains a connection state and an application state for the connection and sends the connection state and the application state to the other compute host. The connection state includes information for a connection-oriented protocol and the application state includes information for an application-layer protocol. The other compute host receives and applies the connection state and the application state in order to establish a termination point to terminate the connection at the other compute host instead of at the particular compute host. The data for the connection is routed to the other compute host, wherein the client is unaware of transfer of the connection to the other compute host.

  • Patent number: 10754813
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer-accessible storage media for optimizing block storage I/O operations in a storage gateway. A write log may be implemented in a block store as a one-dimensional queue. A read cache may also be implemented in the block store. When non-ordered writes are received, sequential writes may be performed to the write log and the data may be written to contiguous locations on the storage. A metadata store may store metadata for the write log and the read cache. Reads may be satisfied from the write log if possible, or from the read cache or backend store if not. If blocks are read from the read cache or backend store to satisfy a read, the blocks may be mutated with data from the write log before being sent to the requesting process. The mutated blocks may be stored to the read cache.

  • Patent number: 10754844
Abstract: Various systems and methods to efficiently store backups of partitions of a database are disclosed. An indication to take a current snapshot of a partition of the database is received. A log size and operation type statistics are determined for a portion of the change log for the partition. A snapshot type is determined for the partition based at least in part on the log size and the operation type statistics, where the snapshot type specifies a log-based snapshot or a full snapshot. The snapshot is stored as metadata indicating a point in the change log if the determined snapshot type is log-based snapshot or stored as complete data of the partition if the determined snapshot type is full snapshot.

  • Publication number: 20200213392
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer-accessible storage media for providing a volume-based block storage service and application programming interfaces (APIs) to the service. A block storage service and block storage service APIs may allow processes (applications or appliances) on the service client network to leverage remote, volume-based block storage provided by the service provider. The APIs may provide a standard interface to volume-based block storage operations on a remote data store. The service provider, the service clients, and/or third parties may develop various applications and/or appliances that may, for example, be instantiated in service clients' local networks and that leverage the block storage service via the APIs to create and manage volumes and snapshots on the remote data store and to upload and download data from the volumes and snapshots on the remote data store.

  • Publication number: 20200213209
Abstract: A computing environment is disclosed that receives from devices requests directed toward services accessible in the environment, and that forwards communications from services in the environment to devices registered with the environment. During a registration process at the environment, devices are assigned a device identifier that is used to identify and authenticate each particular device and requests communicated from and to the device via the environment. The computing environment maintains state information for each device that has been registered with the system. As the device interacts with the system, the state information is updated to reflect the changes in the device. When requests to perform functions are received from devices, the computing environment determines for the particular device and the particular function requested what processing needs to be performed by the environment in response to the request.

  • Publication number: 20200213391
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer-accessible storage media for providing redundant storage gateways. A client may create a storage gateway group and add storage gateways to the group. The client may assign one or more volumes on a remote data store to each the storage gateways in the group. Volume data for each storage gateway in the group may be replicated to at least one other storage gateway in the group. If one of the gateways in the group becomes unavailable, one or more other gateways in the group may take over volumes previously assigned to the unavailable gateway, using the replicated data in the group to seamlessly resume gateway operations for the respective volumes. Client processes that previously communicated with the unavailable gateway may be manually or automatically directed to the gateway(s) that are taking over the unavailable gateway's volumes.

  • Patent number: 10671944
Abstract: A system capable of identifying and locking resources (e.g., items, tickets, etc.) may map resources to a bit vector and use bit vectors to efficiently identify and lock the resources. For example, tickets to a concert may be mapped to a bit vector and the system may generate an availability bit vector indicating an availability of the seat locations. Thus, the tickets may be reserved by changing a binary value for bits corresponding to individual tickets. In addition, the system may generate bit vectors corresponding to metadata associated with the seat locations (e.g., aisle seat, handicap accessible, first ten rows, back ten rows, etc.), allowing the system to easily identify available seat locations that satisfy the search request. As the bit vectors are relatively small and can be processed easily, the system may improve a latency and reduce an error rate associated with searching for and reserving seat locations.
