  • Publication number: 20140323115
Abstract: From a laptop and a client server interface, a subscriber securely initiates tracking and/or disabling of an electronic device by a server. The subscriber receives location and/or usage reports for the electronic device. The subscriber is provided with the capability to modify a profile, device status and/or transfer ownership of the electronic device via a client server interface. Based on the profile, detection of a particular event triggers tracking and/or disabling of the device by the server. The electronic device registers with the server utilizing its unique device ID and/or the subscriber identity information when accessing the internet. The server is enabled to communicate a status and/or a request for tracking information, to the electronic device. The server is also enabled to receive tracking and/or location information and communicates it to the subscriber's laptop.

  • Patent number: 8868995
Abstract: An electronic communication network supports delivery of video program Internet protocol packets. A source device transmits both first and second video program Internet protocol packets. A first recipient device is assigned as positive acknowledgment leader by the source device and a second recipient device is assigned as negative acknowledgement leader by the source device. The first recipient device is operable to transmit to the source device a positive acknowledgment of receipt of the first video program Internet protocol packet. The second recipient device is operable to transmit to the source device a negative acknowledgment of non-receipt upon not receiving the first video program Internet protocol packet. The source device responds to the negative acknowledgement of non-receipt by the second recipient device by multicast resending the second video program Internet protocol packet to both the first and second recipient devices.

  • Publication number: 20140304421
Abstract: A user device is operable to request setup of one or more serving routes to be utilized for delivering content to the user device. The user device is operable to receive the delivered content via the one or more serving routes and/or one or more auxiliary routes based on the request. The serving routes and the auxiliary routes are determined based on a provisioning profile for the user device. The provisioning profile comprises preferred service types, desired QoS for one or more services, client account information, and/or client billing and credit verification information. A connection or communication session is established dynamically based on demand, from the user device and/or a supporting network, for each of the determined one or more auxiliary routes. The user device is operable to receive the delivered content via the determined auxiliary routes in the established connection sessions.

  • Patent number: 8855711
Abstract: A system and method in a multimode mobile communication device for providing communication configuration update capability. Various aspects of the present invention may comprise establishing a first communication link characterized by a first communication mode of a plurality of communication modes in which the multimode communication device is capable of communicating. Such a first communication link may, for example, be established utilizing a first communication interface module. Communication configuration (or profile) information for a second communication mode may be received over the first communication link. The communication configuration information for the second communication mode may then be utilized to configure the mobile communication device to perform communications in the second communication mode (e.g., utilizing a second communication interface module).

  • Patent number: 8843182
Abstract: A communication device may select a communication path to check for pending messages in a multiple network environment. The communication device may exit from a power-saving operating mode during which the communication device does not receive messages from a message server. After exiting the power-saving operating mode, the communication device may identify multiple different communication paths. The multiple communication paths may include different communication networks in the multiple network environment. The communication device may determine a selected communication path from among the multiple communication paths and communicate with a message server across the selected communication path to check for messages.

  • Patent number: 8839431
Abstract: A network browser has a Malware detection manager for direct or indirect scanning of files during an upload or download processes for viruses, adware, spyware, etc. The malware detection manager defines and employs a quarantine bin, which is an isolated and secure memory space or directory for temporary placement of file packets during the file transmission while malware detection can commence. The malware detection manager scans for any malware code associated with the packet sequence encountered during a file transmission to and from the Internet, during which it quarantines all the scanned packets in the quarantine bin. Quarantined files can be released if there is a human challenge authorizing the release of the file. The invention also comprises exchanging a Malware free signature between server and client via a trusted download center.

  • Publication number: 20140258114
Abstract: A proxy card used at an ATM, or at any vendor store, that has a legacy point of sale unit or at a store with the smart point of sale. In general, it can be used with any vendor and otherwise as any credit or debit card might be used. The point-of sale unit interacts with a multi-source processing system (MSPS) that, instead of servicing a single money source, interacts with more than one of a plurality of monetary sources that may be associated with the proxy card. The money transferred from credit or debit accounts of the user may be either transferred directly or indirectly via a proxy central account associated with the MSPS that a user maintains.

  • Patent number: 8825025
Abstract: A cellular telephone or other wireless communications device supports association with a third party sponsor other than a network operator. The device establishes default user interface settings for the user interface consistent with association with the network operator. The device then determines a desired association with one or more third party sponsors. Based upon the desired association, the device retrieve third party sponsor settings. The device then alters its user interface settings based upon the third party sponsor settings, wherein the altered user interface settings differ from the default user interface settings. The device then communicates with a third party sponsor server computer via the communications interface to exchange information relating to operation of the cellular telephone. Multiple third party sponsors could share access to the user interface. The third party sponsor may be a business, a group of individuals, or another entity.
