  • Patent number: 9840812
Abstract: A method of making a multi-ply absorbent product having a wet scrubbing resistance greater than 120 revolutions and a basis weight of between 30 and 50 grams per square meter. A heated adhesive is applied between two single plies/webs, the multiple plies are embossed according to particular parameters, and the embossed webs are compressed with a marrying roll. The adhesive is heated to a temperature of between approximately 32° C. to 66° C. for application between the multiple plies. For each ply, the embossed area generally occupies between approximately 5 to 15% of the total surface area of a surface of the ply, the depth of embossment of the surface is generally between approximately 0.28 and 0.43 centimeters deep, and the embossment of the surface is generally between approximately 0.04 to 0.08 square centimeters in size.

Abstract: A process is provided for making a fluff pulp sheet, comprising contacting at least one cationic trivalent metal, salt thereof, or combination thereof with a composition comprising fluff pulp fibers and water at a first pH, to form a fluff pulp mixture; forming a web from the fluff pulp mixture; and applying at least one debonder surfactant to the web and raising the pH to a second pH, which is higher than the first pH, to make the fluff pulp sheet. A fluff pulp sheet is also provided, comprising a web comprising fluff pulp fibers; at least one cationic trivalent metal, salt thereof, or combination thereof; at least one debonder surfactant; and a fiberization energy of <145 kJ/kg. Products and uses of the fluff pulp sheet are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20170328011
Abstract: The present invention is directed to structured tissue, and in particular to a structured, multilayer tissue with embossed areas that are laminated and embossed areas that are not laminated. The embossed areas that are laminated allow the plies to hold together during use to provide utility, while the non-laminated embossed areas have higher flexibility, lower strength, and improved softness due to disruption of fiber to fiber bonding imparted during the embossing process. Use of embossments of varying depths allows adhesive to be transferred from an adhesive applicator roll to a web in contact with the patterned emboss roll only at the crests of the embossments of the highest depth before multiple plies are laminated together using a nested embossing lamination process.
