  • Patent number: 4446052
Abstract: Calcium 1-hydroxy-3-aminopropane-1,1-diphosphonate forms a gel when mixed with water. As compared to soluble salts of APD, the gel provides slow systemic release and reduced tissue damage when used in the treatment of certain disorders in warm blooded animals.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 17, 1982
Date of Patent: May 1, 1984
Assignee: The Procter & Gamble Company
Inventors: Richard J. Sunberg, James J. Benedict
  • Patent number: 4440738
Abstract: Stable compositions, useful as technetium-99m-based imaging agents, comprise reductic acid or certain structurally-related compounds in combination with a pertechnetate reductant or dissolved in pertechnetate-99m solution. The compositions are especially useful, in combination with a phosphate or phosphonate bone-targeting carrier, for skeletal imaging.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 10, 1982
Date of Patent: April 3, 1984
    Assignee: Mallinckrodt, Inc.
Inventors: Mahdi B. Fawzi, James J. Benedict, Joseph E. Bugaj, Charles R. Degenhardt, Barry F. Van Duzee
  • Patent number: 4399817
Abstract: Boron containing polyphosphonates of the formula ##STR1## wherein Z is a boron-containing radical; R.sub.2 is an alkyl group containing from 1 to about 10 carbon atoms; R.sub.3 is a geminal diphosphonate or a vicinal polyphosphonate containing up to 10 phosphonic acid radicals; R.sub.4 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, amino, benzyl, halogen, hydroxyl, --CH.sub.2 COOH, --CH.sub.2 PO.sub.3 H.sub.2, or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 PO.sub.3 H.sub.2 ; and the salts and esters thereof, have high affinity for calcified tissues, in particular calcific tumors. The compounds are useful in boron neutron capture therapy of such tumors.
