  • Publication number: 20020150047
Abstract: A system and method for scheduling the transmission of ATM cells is provided which includes two discrete processors. One processor examines the virtual channels and their traffic parameters, and calculates the times at which cells should be transmitted from each channel. The second processor manages multiple ATM network ports, performs low-level cell handling and the majority of cell switching, and transmits cells when instructed by the first.

  • Patent number: 6397305
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling memory access in a system where at least a first and a second processor each share a common memory. The first processor has a write buffer, in which it stores words prior to writing them in the common memory, and a cache for receiving words from the common memory. The common memory is mapped twice into the address space of the first processor so that, in a first mapping, the first processor accesses the common memory directly and in a second mapping, the cache is enabled. The common memory can therefore be directly accessed with the first processor and the second processor when they share data that is read from or written into the common memory. The cache is accessed with the first processor in the second mapping for reading and writing data local to the first processor. Information written into the write buffer is tagged and the tagged information is flushed into the shared memory before the shared memory can be accessed by the second processor.

  • Patent number: 6122279
Abstract: A switching device for switching ATM cells from a plurality of network input links to a plurality of network output links comprises a plurality of ports containing line interfaces and input and output buffers, a hardware switch controller, a microprocessor, and memory for storing routing tables and system software. All these elements are interconnected via a processor bus, and additionally, the ports are interconnected by a separate switching bus. The switch controller employs hash-based routing table indexing to route cells from selected input ports to appropriate output ports according to the cells' header information. Switch requests generated by incoming cells are arbitrated using a token bus allocation scheme. The majority of cells are switched almost entirely in hardware, but the microprocessor can assume control of the switching architecture to resolve exception conditions and to perform special processing on selected virtual circuits.

  • Patent number: 5998185
Abstract: Resilient openly porous support structures containing silicon are prepared for cell immobilization. A preferred structure is made of porous silicone rubber foam, and cells are adsorbed to the surfaces of pores. The structure may be in the form of a block, sheet, pad, chip, strand, tube or granule. The silicone rubber foam is formed by aerating liquid silicone rubber, and desired porosity and density are provided by controlling aeration of the liquid silicone rubber. The porosity and/or density may also be controlled by incorporating during manufacture of the structure an inert additive such as a metal powder that produces a dense structure. A density may be provided to prevent the structure from floating in a reaction mixture in which the structure is used. Additives may also be used to control surface properties of the structure. The structure is preferably sterilized before use and may be re-used. The structure is re-used without removing cells or is cleaned to remove cells and then re-sterilized.

  • Patent number: 4891459
Abstract: Entrained pyrolysis of lignocellulosic material proceeds from a controlled pyrolysis-initiating temperature to completion of an oxygen free environment at atmospheric pressure and controlled residence time to provide a high yield recovery of pyrolysis oil together with char and non-condensable, combustible gases. The residence time is a function of gas flow rate and the initiating temperature is likewise a function of the gas flow rate, varying therewith. A controlled initiating temperature range of about 400.degree. C. to 550.degree. C. with corresponding gas flow rates to maximize oil yield is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4764053
Abstract: A method of installing a floatable pump apparatus and an anti-erosion plate at a selected location in a bounded water treatment basin wherein the floatable pump apparatus includes a float having a central opening therethrough and a motor and axial flow propeller-type pump. A winch is temporarily mounted on the upper side of the float and one end of the winch cable is extended downwardly through the central opening in the float and attached to the anti-erosion plate. The float and winch with the anti-erosion plate suspended from the winch cable is then lifted by a shore based crane and deposited in the water treatment basin adjacent the boundary of the basin. The float with the anti-erosion plate buoyantly supported thereby, is moved to the desired location in the basin and the winch then operated to lower the anti-erosion plate onto the bottom of the basin. The float is thereafter moved back to the boundary of the basin.

  • Patent number: 4723848
Abstract: A floating vertical shaft downflow directional mixer apparatus including a float, a motor driven propeller mounted on an upright propeller shaft below the float, and a draft tube extending downwardly from the float and having a lateral discharge outlet. The float is arranged to support the mixer with the propeller shaft generally upright when the mixer is not in operation. The draft tube and lateral discharge outlet are bilaterally symmetrical with respect to a median plane and a thrust reaction line is attached to the lower portion of the draft tube generally symmetrical to the median plane to counteract the reaction forces on the mixer produced by the stream discharged from the discharge outlet and maintain the propeller shaft generally upright when the mixer is in operation.

  • Patent number: 4497637
Abstract: Biomass feedstock raw material is converted to synthesis gas by drying and sizing biomass raw material, pyrolyzing the processed biomass in intimate mixture with inert gases such as combustion products, thereby obtaining a product mixture of char, pyrolysis oil, and pyrolysis gas, and gasifying the char and some of the pyrolysis oil in the presence of steam and oxygen at a temperature sufficient to form the synthesis gas product substantially comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen.

  • Patent number: 4041450
Abstract: An intrusion alarm ignition control system for a motor vehicle comprises a plurality activation switches adapted to be received in the frames of the doors, engine hood and trunk hood of the motor vehicle. Stop members are rotatably mounted in each frame, wherein the stop members prevent closure of the door, engine hood or trunk hood. Each stop member is activated by an electromagnetic element wired in series to each activation switch. An electric key lock switch contained in the body of the motor vehicle is wired in series to a transmitter unit having an antenna contained within the motor vehicle. Each of the series consisting of one activation switch and one electromagnetic element is wired in parallel between the battery of the motor vehicle and the electric key lock switch. An electromagnetic member is wired in series between the transmitter and the battery. A lever type electric switch adapted to be received in the ignition wire of the motor vehicle is open and closed by the electromagnetic member.
