Publication number: 20140050106Abstract: A system and method for handling communications requests. Network performance information of a communications network is gathered using PIP data packets to determine a status of a number of nodes of the communications network. Available bandwidth through connections of the communications network are determined based on the PIP data packets. The available bandwidth for a number of customers is allocated for new connections and utilized bandwidth through the connections as the utilized bandwidth changes across the communications network.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 9, 2013Publication date: February 20, 2014Applicant: CenturyLink Intellectual Property LLCInventors: James L. McNaughton, John M. Heinz, Michael K. Bugenhagen

Publication number: 20130322249Abstract: The disclosed embodiments include a method, apparatus, and computer program product for modifying a three-dimensional geocellular model. For example, one disclosed embodiment includes a system that includes at least one processor and at least one memory coupled to the at least one processor. The memory stores instructions that when executed by the at least one processor performs operations that includes gathering network performance information regarding data flow communicated with a client of a network over a plurality of connections utilizing performance information packets; and automatically balancing the data flow of the plurality of connections between access points of the network that are available to the client using connection admission control engines.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2013Publication date: December 5, 2013Applicant: CenturyLink Intellectual Property LLCInventors: John M. Patent number: 8560670Abstract: A system for characterizing network capacity that stores premise addresses of subscribers and weighted values for the corresponding capacity of the network. Geographic areas containing subscribers are displayed and portions or all of them may be selected by a user. The system generates first descriptors for the selected geographic areas. The system generates an average capacity for the premise addresses for the selected geographic areas and the first descriptors are assigned to corresponding elements of a first matrix based on the weighted value for the calculated average capacity for the premise addresses. The system generates a second matrix representing the relationship of all of the premise addresses and their respective capacity in the selected geographic area based on spatial population descriptors. The system further generates a third matrix using mathematical DCT formulas representing the overall capacity of the network in a geographic area.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2008Date of Patent: October 15, 2013Assignee: CenturyLink Intellectual Property LLCInventors: Patricia Stipanovich, James L. McNaughton

Publication number: 20120236729Abstract: A system and method for provisioning resources of a packet network, including monitoring at least one network performance information parameter associated with communications of data packets. The at least one network performance information parameter(s) may be compared with at least one respective threshold value indicative of degradation of communications of the data packets. A determination may be made that the network performance information parameter(s) crosses the respective threshold value(s). In response to determining that the network performance information parameter(s) crosses the respective threshold value(s), a network resource may be provisioned to compensate for the degradation of communications of the data packets.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 30, 2012Publication date: September 20, 2012Inventors: John M. Heinz, James L. McNaughton
