Abstract: The invention presented relates to a method for reducing the emission of nitrogen oxides from a diesel engine without significant loss of fuel efficiency and without significant increases in carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions. The method involves preparing a diesel engine such that the injection timing thereof is set at a point sufficient to obtain reductions in the nitrogen oxides emissions from the engine; and firing the diesel engine with a diesel fuel having admixed therein an additive which comprises a fuel soluble organometallic platinum group metal coordination composition.

Abstract: SO.sub.x reduction treatments involving sorbent addition to coal-fired boilers is improved by retrofitting the boiler to burn fuel oil-in-water emulsions as a replacement for at least a portion of the coal. The ratio SO.sub.x removed to particulates produced can be significantly increased.

Abstract: Metal casting components, e.g. molds and cores, are produced from a compacted mass of plaster by microwave treatment while shielded by a heat insulating medium, e.g. glass fiber matting, which freely transmits microwave radiation as well as water vapor and steam. A casting component dried by this method is completely calcined, and the resulting component will promote cast reproduction of its surface pattern with maximum fidelity of detail.
