A cover with an open bottom partially encloses the LED driver and a junction box with cable openings and knock out ports is stacked on top of the cover. The cover is a thermal insulator to contain heat from the LED driver inside while the trim acts as a thermal conductor and radiator for the LED driver. No “can” housing is needed to enclose the fixture, and no finned, heat sink is needed to dissipate heat.

Abstract: A universal LED light kit adapted to retrofit or modify a standard ceiling fan having a switch cup, or a ceiling light fixture attached to an electrical outlet box. A LED board having a plurality of spaced apart LEDs is mounted to the exterior of the housing, wherein a LED driver disposed inside the housing powers the LED board. An upper threaded nipple, extension tube, and/or fasteners disposed at the top of the housing connect the kit to the outlet box or the switch cup. A lower threaded, hollow nipple disposed at the bottom of the housing receives a nut or finial to hold the assembly together; attaches a bowl shaped diffuser to the kit; and facilitates a chain pull to pass through to control the fan or light fixture. Electrical wiring passes through the upper nipple and connects the LED driver to the outlet box or the switch cup.

Abstract: A recessed LED ceiling light fixture kit for installation to a ceiling panel or plaster frame in residential homes or commercial buildings is disclosed. The kit includes an LED engine with at least one LED facing downward, an LED driver, and an annular shaped, finned heat sink that receives the LED driver therein and the LED underneath. The fixture includes a tubular-shaped can having an open bottom and a top engaging the heat sink. Detachable can retainer springs or threaded fasteners engage the can at its circumference, wherein the springs mount the can to the ceiling panel, or alternatively, the fasteners attach the can to the plaster frame. A trim ring is snapped onto the can at its open bottom, and an electrical junction box sits on top of the heat sink.
