  • Patent number: 4886431
Abstract: A peristaltic pump having a plurality of removable cartridges, each containing a length of tubing, and each having means for adjusting occlusion comprising a linearly displaceable occlusion bed. Tubing retainers on each cartridge stabilize the tubing segments to constrain them against longitudinal displacement during pumping. Means are provided to enable visual determination of occlusion adjustment through the top of each cartridge. Each of the cartridges is reversible, and is readily installed on the pump frame and retained thereon by a snap-lock mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4616512
Abstract: A nonintrusive, or noncontact, shaft torquemeter for use in measuring torque transmission through a rotatable shaft. The torquemeter includes an annular torque-sensing coil structure having an annular excitation coil and a pickup coil magnetically coupled to the excitation coil through an improved magnetostrictive coupling structure carried by the shaft. In the illustrated embodiment, the magnetostrictive coupling portion is provided on a tube coaxially fixed at its ends to the shaft. The invention comprehends the provision of structure for preventing a continuous annular conductive path through the coupling portion or tube. Other structure for improving torque measuring accuracy may be provided, including the use of an outer magnetic stator core, and the provision of annular corrugations in the tube for preventing transmission of nontorque forces, such as bending forces, to the coupling portion.

  • Patent number: 4567138
Abstract: A substrate solution comprising (a) a substrate selected from a group consisting of salts of L-.gamma.-glutamyl-p-nitroanilide and L-.gamma.-glutamyl-3-carboxy-p-nitroanilide; and (b) a polyol selected from a group consisting of alkyl polyols containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms and 2 to 10 hydroxy groups and polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight of from about 200 to about 600.Also, a kit for the determination of .gamma.-glutamyltransferase activity of the type comprising (a) a buffered medium comprising a buffer and a .gamma.-glutamyl residue acceptor; and (b) a substrate solution; the buffered medium and substrate solution being adapted such that preselected aliquots thereof can react in the presence of .gamma.-glutamyltransferase to produce an absorbing cleavage product. The kit is characterized in that the substrate solution is as described above. In addition, a method for determining .gamma.

  • Patent number: 4323478
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus is disclosed for producing frozen particulate compositions from liquid feedstock. A continuous stream of liquid feedstock is passed through an orifice and into a liquid freezant without the orifice contacting the freezant. Compositions produced by this improved method have low proportions of fine and large particles, yielding particularly beneficial results in the case of quality control materials. The compositions are advantageously employed in automated weighing and filling apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4310322
Abstract: A variable speed clutch drive for light vehicles, e.g. motor bikes, snowmobiles, etc., responds to both engine speed and torque. The drive includes a conical pulley system of driver and driven pulleys coupled by a continuous V-belt. The driven pulley includes torque responsive means which utilize fixed and movable discs, the fixed disc containing radially arcuate apertures circularly disposed about its center of rotation. The discs are biased together by a spring system which includes a spring cover containing at least one integral cam for sliding contact with at least one aperture in the fixed disc.
