  • Publication number: 20180145201
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention may utilize one or more techniques, alone or in combination, to maximize a surface area of a receiver that is configured to convert light into another form of energy. One technique enhances collection efficiency by controlling a size, shape, and/or position of a cell relative to an expected illumination profile under various conditions. Another technique positions non-active elements (such as electrical contacts and/or interconnects) on surfaces likely to be shaded from incident light by other elements of the receiver. Another technique utilizes embodiments of interconnect structures occupying a small footprint. According to certain embodiments, the receiver may be cooled by exposure to a fluid such as water or air.

  • Patent number: 9965571
Abstract: A method of recambering an aerofoil section. A position on one of the surfaces that intersects with a passage shock between adjacent aerofoils is determined and then projected as a shock position onto the camber line. A shock region encompassing the shock position and extending in a chordal direction towards the leading and trailing edges is defined. The camber line is recalculated in an upstream region using semi-inverse design. The camber line is extrapolated across the shock region to match a geometric criterion. The camber line is recalculated in a downstream region using semi-inverse design.

  • Patent number: 8573945
Abstract: A compressor component having a non-linear thickness distribution along the span length is disclosed. By altering the thickness distribution to a non-linear arrangement so as to locally increase airfoil thickness proximate a mid-span location, the natural frequency of the airfoil is increased so as to not coincide with a critical engine order of the compressor. Further, the present invention provides a novel airfoil profile in accordance with the coordinates of Table 1. The present invention also includes a carrier segment or disk fabricated from a material so as to eliminate corrosion with the compressor component.

  • Patent number: 8573942
Abstract: A gas turbine engine component having an axial pin stop assembly that reduces stress around a seal pin damper slot between a platform and a buttress is disclosed. The seal pin damper slot is extended to the leading edge of the buttress and an axial pin stop seal extends into the pin damper slot to limit movement of the seal pin damper while relieving stress concentration at the interface between the buttress and platform.

  • Patent number: 8511982
Abstract: A compressor diaphragm for a gas turbine engine having improved wear capability, manufacturability, and assembly techniques is disclosed. The diaphragm includes a shiplap-type joint at an outer vane platform for connecting to adjacent vane assemblies and a clamshell-like assembly of a seal box secures and seals regions around the inner vane platform of the compressor diaphragm so as to reduce wear between the seal box and the vane assemblies. The inner platform of the diaphragm segments are fastened to each other through circumferentially-oriented fasteners at the inner diameter platform.

  • Publication number: 20120279375
Abstract: A guitar strap securing member has a head and a shaft extending from the head. The shaft is dimensioned to pass though a through-hole of a strap. The head is substantially larger than the through-hole. The strap securing member shaft secures the guitar strap to a receptacle on and supported by a guitar body by inserting the shaft of the guitar strap securing member through the through through-hole of the strap and into the receptacle. The head of the inserted guitar strap securing member, larger than the through-hole, and the shaft in the channel, secures the guitar strap.

  • Patent number: 8287241
Abstract: A gas turbine blade having reduced stresses around a regions where the airfoil training edge joins the platform is disclosed. The lower stresses are achieved due to an undercut region proximate the blade trailing edge being placed in the platform. The undercut region has a compound fillet radius formed from two single and tangent radii where the first radius closer to the airfoil is larger than the second radius such that a ratio of R1/R2 is approximately 2.0 to 2.5.

  • Publication number: 20120167949
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include structures and methods for enhancing illumination uniformity from solar concentrators. Certain embodiments may use features on a reflective layer to globally correct for deviation in reflective behavior from a desired shape. Local features such as facets on a reflective layer are formed such that the resulting illumination profile represents a superposition of multiple facets. Features may be formed on a back film to correct the reflectance of the back film. In some embodiments, features may be formed on a front film to correct a profile from refraction. In some embodiments the corrections are for line concentrators. Global and local correction techniques may be used together, and may be used on front film or reflective film(s) together or separately. Global and/or local correction may also be used in combination with other approaches, such as secondary optic receiver compensation.
