  • Publication number: 20140036510
Abstract: In one aspect, an optical lens assembly (herein referred to also as an optic) is provided that comprises a plurality of lenses (or lens segments) adapted to receive light from a light source, each of said lenses (or lens segments) having an input surface and an output surface and a lateral surface extending between the input and output surfaces. The lenses are arranged relative to one another and positioned relative to the light source such that each of the lenses receives at its input surface a different portion of light emitted by the source, e.g., each lens receives at its input surface light emitted by the source into an angular subtense (solid angle) different than an angular subtense associated with another lens. Each lens (or lens segment) guides at least a portion of the received light to its output surface via reflection, e.g., via total internal reflection (TIR).

  • Patent number: 8645525
Abstract: For managing partitioning in a cluster of nodes, each node is assigned a prime number for use in determining which partition should be activated following partitioning of the cluster. The cluster is monitored for partitioning. If partitioning is detected, a partition value is calculated from the product of the prime numbers assigned to each node in each partition. A node is activated only if it is within the partition having the greatest partition value.

  • Publication number: 20130286662
Abstract: Optics and optical devices and systems are disclosed that employ a plurality of refractive and/or reflective optical elements, such as lenses and mirrors, with different shapes to achieve a desired illumination pattern. In various aspects, a plurality of lenses in which at least two of the lenses have different boundary shapes are arranged, e.g., according to a predefined pattern, to receive light from one or more light sources and to redirect the received light to form collectively a desired far-field illumination pattern. For example, the lenses can be configured such that the far-field illumination pattern has a boundary shape that is different from the boundary shape of a far-field illumination pattern that can be provided individually by the lenses.

  • Publication number: 20130265777
Abstract: In some aspects, an optic is disclosed that includes a light input interface having a rippled surface that can mix the light incident thereon as the light propagates within the optic from the rippled surface to a peripheral surface of the optic, which is configured to redirect the light incident thereon to an output surface through which the light exits the optic.

  • Publication number: 20130267888
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for the inactivation of infectious agents in, on or around a catheter residing in a patient's body cavity. The method comprises transmitting non-ultraviolet sterilizing electromagnetic radiation (EMR) substantially axially along an optical element in the catheter body. Through delivery of the sterilizing EMR to particular areas of highest infection, the present disclosure is able to inactivate the major sources of infection in catheters.

  • Publication number: 20130058594
Abstract: A portable, removable dust containment system is disclosed for capturing and containing the dust generated by work performed on a work surface, such as the wall or ceiling inside a room. The device includes a transparent plastic bag with a first large opening at one end, and with the bag tapering to a smaller second opening at a second end. The device is removably affixed by an adhesive onto a wall surface, with the perimeter of the first opening surrounding an area where work is to be done on the wall. The user extends his or her hand through the second opening and closes the second opening. Any dust generated by the work is captured and contained within the bag and can be discarded when the bag is removed from the wall.

  • Patent number: 8355401
Abstract: Access to a device is controlled in a data processing network by receiving a first request from a client to connect to a device where the device is limited to a fixed number of client connections and connecting the client to an available client connection of the device if the fixed number of client connections on the device would not be exceeded by connecting the client. Access is further controlled by testing liveness of a current client connection on the device if the fixed number of client connections on the device would be exceeded by connecting the client and dropping the current client connection if the liveness testing indicates that the current client connection is not live.

  • Patent number: 8023498
Abstract: A method and system of controlling access to a destination (17, 23, 24) in a data processing network where the destination is limited to a fixed number of requesters responds to a new request (50) for access from a given requestor (20) by determining whether the fixed number would be exceeded. If the fixed number would not be exceeded (51), the new request is granted by connecting (52) the given requester to the destination. If the fixed number would be exceeded, the liveness of the or each current connection to a respective requester is tested (55). If the liveness test succeeds, the new request is rejected but if the liveness test fails, the new request is granted (52).
