  • Publication number: 20020162797
Abstract: Buoyant, sphere-like materials on the order of about 10 to about 300 microns and surrounded, at least in part, by (1) a variable blend of a ferromagnetic and paramagnetic material and (2) an absorbing or adsorbing material are effective vehicles for isolating targeted materials. By virtue of its relatively low density, the composite material is capable of remaining sufficiently suspended in solution for a suitable amount of time. In addition, the blend of ferromagnetic and paramagnetic materials allows for the isolation of a composite material from an environment such as a solution, yet discourages substantial self-attachment of the composite materials in solution, when subject to a magnetic field. Accordingly, multiple embodiments of composite materials having these and other properties are disclosed, as well as methods for making and using the same.

  • Patent number: 6389651
Abstract: A recloseable package is disclosed having a front wall and a rear wall. A thermoplastic zipper male base member is disposed at a top end of the first wall and a thermoplastic zipper female base member is disposed at a top end of the second wall. The base members each have a profile which extends transversely across the walls. The profiles are each disposed between a product side web and a consumer side web. A heat resistant barrier is provided on facing surfaces of the male and female product side webs, extending from product side longitudinal edges of the base members toward the associated profiles. The male and female base members are heat sealed to the first and second walls, respectively, opposite to the heat resistant barriers which are resistant to heat sealing to each other. The facing surfaces of the consumer side webs may likewise have heat resistant barrier layers, in which case the package is sealed above the consumer side webs.

  • Patent number: 6371427
Abstract: A wall mounted hanger is of flexible wire construction including arcuate wire segments for insertion through an opening in the wall for endwise wall contact. The wire segments oppositely extend through the wall and merge with upwardly curved wire segments to form a hook. A modified wall hanger further includes multiple vertically spaced hooks supported by a wall and a wall abutting plate and fasteners for wall insertion. A still further modification includes wire segments extending outwardly from a wall and forming juxtaposed hooks for reception of a curtain or drapery rod with wire segments continuing to form a brace supported by a wall abutting plate.

  • Patent number: 6368703
Abstract: A strong, porous article comprising a strong porous carrier having an outer surface defining a shape having a bulk volume and having pores defining interconnecting fluid flow openings extending throughout the bulk volume and opening through said surface. A second porous material, the mean pore size of which is at least an order of magnitude less than the mean pore size of the porous carrier, is nested within and structurally supported by the pore walls of the carrier so that the second porous material maintains its porous configuration and its pores are accessible to a fluid flowing through the pores of the porous carrier.

  • Patent number: 6350340
Abstract: Methods, an apparatus and a system in which reclosable bags and components thereof are formed are disclosed. The reclosable bags are made from base web material that has transversely applied fastener tape segments thereon. The web material is used in a vertical form, fill and seal bag forming method. The method includes the steps of supplying across the web a continuous strip of tape, having male and female fastener profiles thereon, for sealing thereto. In one embodiment a continuous strip of barrier material, and a continuous strip of fastener having first and second interlocked fastener profile strips are positioned on the continuous strip of tape; and secured thereon, the barrier tape is folded to obtain a fold and two opposing barrier tape fastener strip connecting portions; and, the fold is slit to form two separate continuous strips of barrier material strips and two continuous strips of tape.

  • Publication number: 20010053937
Abstract: A strong, porous article useful as a bone substitute material. The article comprises a continuous strong framework structure having struts defining interstices which interconnect throughout the bulk volume, and may have ceramic or osteoconductive material occupying at least a portion of the same bulk volume as the framework structure. Either as a coating on the strong framework struts or between the framework struts and the ceramic or osteoconductive-osteoinductive materials is a resilient material which serves to distribute stresses within the article.

  • Patent number: 6138329
Abstract: The present invention includes methods, an apparatus and a system in which reclosable bags and components thereof are formed. The reclosable bags are made from base web material that has transversely applied fastener tape segments thereon. The web material is used in a vertical form, fill and seal bag forming method. The method includes the steps of supplying a continuous strip of tape, having first and second closure elements sealed thereon. The first and second closure elements have respectively a pair of male profiles and a pair of female or u-shaped elements thereon, each shaped for interlocking with the other. A thickened sealing bridge between the male elements and a second thickened sealing bridge between the female elements allows precise sealing of the fastener element to fastener tape or to the bag walls as desired. It also facilitates keeping the profiles interlocked.

  • Patent number: 6136029
Abstract: A strong, porous article useful as a bone substitute material and having an outer surface defining a shape having a bulk volume and having open interconnecting interstices extending throughout said volume and opening through said surface. The article comprises a continuous strong framework structure having interstices which interconnect throughout the bulk volume and a second continuous material occupying at least a portion of the same bulk volume as the framework structure. The second material comprises an osteoinductive and/or osteoconductive composition. This composition may be present in one of several forms. One of these is as a coating on the surface of the framework structure. A second form is in the form of a composite, intimately mixed with the framework material within the framework struts. The third form is as a porous mass within the interstices of the framework structure, having pores which are interconnecting with themselves, and with the interstices of the framework structure.

  • Patent number: 6110586
Abstract: Fastener tape fabrication equipment and process for manufacturing fastener tape for attachment in an opening in the top of a reclosable plastic bag. A continuous strip of intermediate layer for carrying a continuous strip of profile fastener is provided from a delivery assembly with a constant tension to an applicator assembly. A pair of laterally spaced adhesive surfaces are also carried upon the intermediate layer. The intermediate layer passes over a generally V-shaped member, mounted upon the delivery assembly, in order to be folded. The profile is inserted into the fold of the intermediate layer. Circumferentially grooved wheels then align the profile with the intermediate layer as the intermediate layer and profile are directed into a plurality of sealing bars upon the applicator assembly to form the fastener tape. A first set of sealing bars seal the profile to the intermediate layer and a second set of sealing bars seal the adhesive surfaces together to form a peel seal on the intermediate layer.
