  • Publication number: 20190380713
Abstract: An assembly for use in repairing a severed tendon comprises an elongate threading element adapted to transit along a lumen of a tendon sheath, for covering a curved needle and carrying the needle within the lumen. The assembly can also comprise a liner for lining an internal surface of the tendon sheath, defining an internal passage along which a tendon stump coupled to the curved needle can pass. The liner can have a collapsed, rest configuration in which it is adapted to be inserted into the lumen of the tendon sheath, and an expanded, operating configuration, the liner being movable to the expanded configuration by contact with the tendon stump. Once released from the liner, the threading element receives the curved needle, for covering and carrying the curved needle through the liner and along the lumen of the tendon sheath trailing the connected tendon stump.

  • Patent number: 10502672
Abstract: The properties of a fluid body in the form of a surface-attached droplet/bubble can be determined. A data set is stored describing a plurality of droplets/bubbles of different shapes; each shape is captured as a combination of two or more linear dimensional measurements. For each shape the data set includes one or more parameters describing the relationship between the physical properties of a pair of fluids capable of forming that shape as a surface-attached droplet/bubble disposed in a surrounding fluid medium. A fluid body is provided in the form of a surface-attached droplet/bubble and a plurality of linear dimensional measurements are taken and provided as input to a processing apparatus. Processing apparatus determines from the data set the one or more parameters associated with the shape described by said linear dimensional measurements. Particular the surface tension of a fluid can be found in this way based on simple dimensional measurements.

  • Publication number: 20190306189
Abstract: Examples provide a permission service for controlling service requests to web services. A permission controller monitors the number of active requests to a selected web service. When a permission request associated with the selected web service is received from a client, the permission service compares the current number of active requests to a per-service maximum threshold number of active requests. The permission controller maintains a per-threshold number of active requests customized for each web service. If the current request would exceed the threshold number if granted, the permission controller sends a denial with a random wait time to the client. The client resends the permission request on expiration of the wait time. The permission controller generates a different random wait time for each denial response. If the number of active requests is less than or equal to the threshold, the permission service grants permission to the client.

  • Patent number: 10179684
Abstract: A thermoplastic baling strip comprises an elongate band of thermoplastic material said elongate band having sufficient flexibility to be formed into a knot; the elongate band having an outer surface formed with a set of surface undulations extending along its main length. The plurality of surface undulations operate in use to grip a surface to which said strip surface contacts. The use of undulations extending along the length of the strip enable the strip to be reliably tied in a knot, without releasing or coming undone when transported. Complete bales can be fed into an incinerator without the need to remove the baling strip, which burns on incineration.

  • Patent number: 10160395
Abstract: A vehicle-attached lifting device and tool support is provided. The device comprises a dual-rail frame supported in an upright configuration by the vehicle tow hitch, wherein an internal subassembly support frame is positioned between the rails for the purposes of supporting different lifting and tool support subassemblies. Along the sides of the upright frame is a pair of ground support members that extend downward towards the ground to support the frame during operation, preventing the load from compressing the vehicle suspension or damaging the same. A winch controls the vertical positioning of the support frame within the dual-rail frame, which controls the position of a lifting or tool support subassembly. Many subassemblies are contemplated for use with the present invention for the purposes of assisting a user without requiring manual input therefrom. The device can also adjust with relation to the vehicle using different trailer hitch attachments.
