  • Publication number: 20050156700
Abstract: An integrated receiver with channel selection and image rejection substantially implemented on a single CMOS integrated circuit is described. A receiver front end provides programable attenuation and a programable gain low noise amplifier. Frequency conversion circuitry advantageously uses LC filters integrated onto the substrate in conjunction with image reject mixers to provide sufficient image frequency rejection. Filter tuning and inductor Q compensation over temperature are performed on chip. The filters utilize multi track spiral inductors with shields to increase circuit Q. The filters are tuned using local oscillators to tune a substitute filter, and frequency scaling during filter component values to those of the filter being tuned. In conjunction with filtering, frequency planning provides additional image rejection. The advantageous choice of local oscillator signal generation methods on chip is by PLL out of band local oscillation and by direct synthesis for in band local oscillator.

  • Publication number: 20050087040
Abstract: A method for recycling metals from swarf includes steps of removing oil in swarf by means of surfactant having a feature of strong hydrophilicity. The steps involves repeated stirring and washing, separating solid from liquid, and separating oil from water so as to force oil separate from the surface of solid, finishing all the steps in 10-30 minutes. Metals after finished the treatment may have only 1% of oil remained thereon, possible to be reused in metalworking. Oil and washing solution are also reusable after treated, so the method is effective both for treating waste and for recycling resources.

  • Publication number: 20050073769
Abstract: A device for detecting an actuator assembly parking error when a disc drive is powered on includes a magnetic latch attached to the actuator assembly and a latch pin assembly electrically connected to a base plate in the disc drive, where the latch pin assembly is positioned to contact the magnetic latch only when the actuator's read/write head is positioned over a parking zone on the disc. A detection module is electrically connected to the magnetic latch and thus is able to detect whether or not the magnetic latch is contacting the latch pin assembly when the disc drive is powered on. A method for detecting an actuator assembly parking error includes powering on the disc drive, determining whether the magnetic latch has electrical contact with the latch pin assembly, and reporting a parking error if the magnetic latch does not have electrical contact with the latch pin assembly.

  • Publication number: 20050062491
Abstract: A method and system for monitoring and compensating the performance of an operational circuit is provided. The system includes one or more integrated circuit chips and a controller. Each integrated circuit chip includes one or more operational circuits, each operational circuit having at least one controllable circuit parameter. Each integrated circuit chip also includes a process monitor module at least partially constructed thereon. The controller is coupled to each process monitor module and to each operational circuit. The controller includes logic for evaluating the performance of an operational circuit based on data obtained from process monitor module and operational circuit related data stored in a memory. Based on the evaluation, the controller determines whether any deviations from desired or optimal performance of the circuit exist. If deviations exist, the controller generates a control signal to initiate adjustments to the operational circuit to compensate for the deviations.

  • Patent number: 6623997
Abstract: A submount substrate is used for the dual purposes of enabling simultaneous burn-in processing for a relatively large number of arrays of optical transmitters and enabling conventional dicing techniques to be used to form mounting-ready assemblies. In the preferred embodiment, the submount substrate is a silicon wafer that is specifically designed to provide connectivity between VCSEL arrays and burn-in equipment during the testing stage, but is also designed to be segmented and used in the final packaging stage. Because the submount is a silicon wafer, conventional integrated circuit fabrication techniques may be used to form conductive patterns that define array-receiving areas and that allow external circuitry to communicate with the various VCSEL arrays.

  • Patent number: 6537918
Abstract: A method for plasma etching a semiconductor film stack. The film stack includes at least one layer comprising silicon oxynitride. The method includes etching the silicon oxynitride-comprising layer using an etchant gas mixture comprising chlorine and at least one compound containing fluorine and carbon. The atomic ratio of fluorine to chlorine in the etchant gas ranges between about 3:1 and about 0.01:1; preferably, between about 0.5:1 and about 0.01:1; most preferably, between about 0.25:1 and about 0.1:1. The etchant gas forms a fluorine-comprising polymer or species which deposits on exposed surfaces adjacent to the silicon oxynitride-comprising layer in an amount sufficient to reduce the etch rate of an adjacent material (such as a photoresist) while permitting the etching of the silicon oxynitride-comprising layer.
