  • Publication number: 20060015660
Abstract: A method for maintaining flow control in a buffer memory coupled to a storage controller is provided. The storage controller includes, first and second counters that are used to monitor when data is read from a buffer memory and when data is transferred from the buffer memory to the host. The method includes, incrementing first and second counter values when data is placed in the buffer memory; decrementing a first counter value when data is read from the buffer memory; and decrementing the second counter value when data is sent to a host. The method further includes, pausing a first channel logic between a transport module and a storage disk when there is no data in the buffer memory; and pausing a second channel logic between a disk and the buffer memory if there is no space in the buffer memory.

  • Publication number: 20050171249
Abstract: Granular starch is added to a polymer in order to decrease the cost of the polymer derivative. Use of granular starch also makes the derivative more biodegradable. The polymer blend has very similar mechanical properties to pure polymer. Furthermore, unlike other starch/polyethylene mixtures, glycerol is not added to the mixture. This reduces the water absorbency of the final product. The polymer and starch are blended together in the presence of an interfacial compatibilizer that binds the two components together.

  • Patent number: 6890928
Abstract: This invention is directed to aromatic sulfone hydroxamic acids (including hydroxamates) and salts thereof that, inter alia, inhibit matrix metalloproteinase (also known as “matrix metalloprotease” or “MMP”) activity and/or aggrecanase activity. This invention also is directed to a prevention or treatment method that comprises administering such a compound or salt in an MMP-inhibiting and/or aggrecanase-inhibiting effective amount to an animal, particularly a mammal having (or disposed to having) a pathological condition associated with MMP and/or aggrecanase activity.

  • Publication number: 20040184567
Abstract: System and method for decoding punctured subframes. A preferred embodiment comprises a first deinterleaver unit (for example, 5-ms deinterleaver 502) and a second deinterleaver unit (for example, 20-ms deinterleaver 504) operating in parallel, deinterleaving one symbol stream using 5- and 20-ms duration frame formats, for example. After the reception of each 5-ms subframe, the subframe is decoded in a decode unit (for example, rate matching, decoding, and CRC checking (RDC) unit 530) to verify that the subframe contains 5 ms duration frame data. If so, the subframe is noted. If all 5-ms subframes in a 20-ms duration frame contain 5-ms duration data, no decoding of results by the second deinterleaver unit is needed. If the entire 20-ms duration frame is not all 5-ms duration data, then the 5-ms duration data subframes are zeroed and the remaining data is decoded as 20-ms duration data.

  • Patent number: 6789186
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for improving the rate at which macroinstructions are transformed into corresponding microinstructions. Encoding is added to a microcode storage device. The encoding indicates that a microinstruction flow will end in a determined number of cycles. The number of cycles is determined by the number of canceled instructions in a processing pipeline that would be introduced if no flow length prediction was used. For flow lengths less than a determined number of cycles, a hint bit is used in an entry point structure. For flow lengths greater than a determined length, a hint bit is encoded at a third line from an end of the microinstruction flow. Using this method, flows of any length can be hinted. Furthermore, flows that do not originate from the entry point structure can also be hinted. The method reduces the number of hint bits that are needed in the entry point structure and provides for better prediction.

  • Patent number: 6640270
Abstract: A terminal connection box for connecting a computer and an external peripheral device. The terminal connection box comprises: a plurality of side walls forming a housing, an enhanced signal circuit located inside the housing for converting and boosting signals, a first cable connecting the enhanced signal circuit and the computer, and a 1394 type plug connecting the enhanced signal circuit and the external peripheral device. The 1394 type signals coming from the external peripheral device are boosted and converted by the enhanced signal circuit so as to be compatible to the computer. Signals coming from the computer are boosted and converted into 1394 type signals by the enhanced signal circuit so as to be compatible to the external peripheral device. Such that the external peripheral device and the computer can perform bi-directional intercommunications with their signal boosted by the enhanced signal circuit.

  • Publication number: 20030156627
Abstract: A demodulator such as a Fast Hadamard Transform (FHT) based demodulator is used to demodulate all channels in a code space with code length equal to the data channel code. Since the codes for overhead control channels are usually longer, the control channel data is only partially uncovered. Once the necessary further processing is performed and the information to fully uncover the control channels is available, the control channel data is fully demodulated. By only processing one partially uncovered secondary control channel, the present invention reduces the implementation complexity. A hardware implementation of the above method, requires fewer data processing operations, and reduces data processing delays, resulting in lower power consumption.

  • Publication number: 20030156593
Abstract: A CDMA receiver (500) minimizes the use of hardware by taking advantage of the fact that Walsh sequences of a predetermined length (e.g., 16) are comprised of inverted and non-inverted versions of smaller length (e.g., 4) sequences. The receiver (500) performs the necessary uncovering operations for example of a Walsh sequence of length 16 by performing uncovering operations using smaller length Walsh sequences such as of length 4 and then performing subsequent summing operations with inverted and non-inverted versions of the results of such uncovering operations.

  • Publication number: 20020178876
Abstract: An electronic type torsional wrench includes a flexible member, a handle mounted on one end of the flexible member, and a sensor mounted between the flexible member and the handle. In such a manner, when a relative force is formed between the flexible member and the handle, the sensor detects the relative force or deformation, converts force or deformation values into torsion reading values, and displays the torsion reading values.

  • Publication number: 20020170395
Abstract: An electronic type torsional wrench includes a handle, a force applying stem, a drive shank, and a pressure sensor. The pressure sensor includes a base member connected with the force applying stem, and a detecting member connected with the drive shank. In such a manner, when the relative pressure is formed between the force applying stem and the drive shank, the pressure sensor detects pressure values which are converted into torsion reading values by the converting unit, and the torsion reading values are displayed by the display monitor. Thus, the torsion reading values can be detected accurately, and the operation of the torsional wrench is convenient.

  • Publication number: 20020056113
Abstract: A home network connection system is disclosed. A plurality of plug boxes matching with the requirement of the 1394 communication protocol proposed by Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) are installed in each of small rooms within a space. Then the electronic or electric devices are connected to the plug boxes through wires. Proper connecting wires serve to connect these plug boxes for transmission. The home audio and video interoperability (HAVI) is used to confine the devices. Therefore, the electronic or electric devices of a home can be connected through the 1394 communication protocol so that the resources in the plug boxes are shared by all members of the home.

  • Patent number: 4897805
Abstract: A method of filling a polygon as represented on a scan-line raster display includes storing data representative of the polygon edges, computing the points of intersection of a scan-line with each polygon edge, assigning a count having a parity value to each crossed-edge, and combining all colinear horizontal edges at the points of intersection. The number of polygon edges positioned above the colinear horizontal edge and which have a vertex coincident with the colinear horizontal edge, as well as the number of polygon edges positioned below the colinear horizontal edge and which have a vertex coincident with the colinear horizontal edge, are calculated. The parity of the crossed-edge count is inverted if the parity of both the above edge count and below edge count are even, and the string of pixels along the raster display scan-line from the current edge intersection to the next edge intersection are modified if the parity of the crossed-edge count is odd.
