  • Publication number: 20140130584
Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure relate to systems and methods for holding target turbomachine compressor pressure ratio constant while varying the shaft speed. In order to characterize a load compressor and validate the compressor design, the speed of the load compressor can be changed while controlling the compressor operating line and holding the inlet guide vanes at a constant angle. Discharge control valves can be dynamically adjusted to maintain the pressure ratio equal to the operating line over a range of speeds.

  • Publication number: 20140087047
Abstract: A product-spreading hood assembly (10) for use with a die unit (128) includes a deflector (14) having wall structure defining a product inlet opening (90) and a product outlet opening (92); the deflector (14) is preferably generally frustoconical in shape and is supported by a housing (12). An optional air delivery assembly (16) allows air currents to be directed from the area of the inlet (90) towards outlet (92) to facilitate separation of discrete products. Advantageously, the air currents are delivered in a circumferential fashion about the die unit (128). Use of the hood assembly (10) serves to separate high moisture or “sticky” extrudates, thereby preventing agglomeration thereof.

  • Publication number: 20120160085
Abstract: A multi step approach to mitigating the effects of explosively formed projectiles (EFPs). The first step involves a splitting step whereby the EFP total mass is reduced into fragments having smaller masses. The fragments are then exposed to cascading armored disks in preparation for a temperature reduction or “cooling” step. Heat is reduced by conduction through a cooling medium. Temperature reduction restores some solid properties to each fragment. The EFP fragments are slowed by exposure to a series of cascading armored disks designed to disperse contact pressures from any remaining fragments.

  • Patent number: 8022133
Abstract: It is possible to improve significantly the optical performance of diacetal or DBS-based nucleating or clarifying agents using a co-additive. Haze is a measure of the lack of clarity in a thermoplastic or plastic material. A low level of haze is usually quite desirable, and nucleating/clarifying agents are designed to reduce the degree of haze in a plastic or thermoplastic material. A co-additive may be used in connection with a nucleating/clarifying agents in a polymer or copolymer to achieve even greater results in terms of improved clarity (reduced haze), or in terms of a higher crystallization temperature (Tc) of the polymer. A method for reducing haze in polymer articles using a co-additive composition in addition to nucleating and clarifying agents is disclosed.
