  • Publication number: 20180141565
Abstract: Aspects of the subject technology relate to systems and methods for monitoring component wear to prevent premature component failure. A control system for a system having one or more mechanical or electronic components may include a life manager that monitors accumulated wear of the one or more components. The life manager may provide an alert and/or limit system operations when the accumulated wear exceeds a limit. The limit may be dynamically determined based on an operating age of the component. The limit may also be defined as a matrix of limits, each defined for a range of a particular operating condition of the component. Operating conditions may include an applied torque range for a vehicle wheel or a thermal cycle temperature range for an electronic switching component.

  • Publication number: 20180086292
Abstract: Cooling control systems described herein detect decreased operation of a cooling system of a vehicle, restrict movement of the vehicle without stopping movement responsive to decreased operation of the cooling system, and restrict movement of the vehicle by preventing the vehicle from traveling at a speed and/or power output for a non-zero designated period of time. This can allow for the vehicle to continue moving for a temporary period of time to avoid blocking traffic. Other control systems determine predicted distances and/or times that the vehicle can continue moving before coolant in the cooling system decreases below a designated threshold. Movement of the vehicle can be changed responsive to an upcoming distance and/or time that the vehicle is to travel exceeding the predicted distance and/or time. Other control systems modify a coolant flow rate based on differences between designated and ambient conditions.

  • Patent number: 9868659
Abstract: A method of producing purified water in a subsurface environment is provided in which ambient subsurface source water is introduced into and through one or more ultrafiltration membrane units of a subsurface water treatment system and producing thereby an ultrafiltrate substantially free of solid particulates having a largest dimension greater than 0.1 microns. An electrochemical unit in fluid communication with at least one ultrafiltration membrane unit provides an antifoulant solution. An ultrafiltrate-rich backwash fluid and at least a portion of the antifoulant solution are delivered to at least one non-producing ultrafiltration membrane unit during a backwash cycle. A flux of source fluid through each of the ultrafiltration membrane units of less than thirty gallons per square foot per day limits the need for backwash cycles. A reduction in the number of backwash cycles enhances system autonomy and useful life, and limits the need for intervention for maintenance and component replacement.

  • Patent number: 9871826
Abstract: Systems and techniques are provided for creating sensor based rules for detecting and responding to malicious activity. Evidence corresponding to a malicious activity is received. The evidence corresponding to malicious activity is analyzed. Indicators are identified from the evidence. The indicators are extracted from the evidence. It is determined that an action to mitigate or detect a threat needs to be taken based on the indicators and evidence. A sensor to employ the prescribed action is identified. Whether a sensor based rule meets a threshold requirement is validated. A configuration file used to task the sensor based rule to the identified sensor is created. The number of sensor based rule triggers is tracked.

  • Publication number: 20180003202
Abstract: A cable gripping apparatus comprising a plurality of jaw members, each jaw member being tapered on an outer surface thereof from a larger first end to a smaller second end, said plurality of jaw members being configured to receive and grip a cable therebetween. A cylindrical collar having external threads and a tapered internal bore is receivable of the tapered jaw members in the tapered internal bore. A cylindrical turnbuckle body having a threaded bore is receivable of the threaded cylindrical collar entirely within the turnbuckle bore. The cylindrical collar, plurality of jaw members, and cable gripped therewithin define collectively a collar sub-assembly receivable within the turnbuckle bore. When the turnbuckle body is rotated, the collar sub-assembly is moved axially within the threaded bore of the turnbuckle body, thus changing the tension in the cable.

  • Publication number: 20170299524
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for detecting the presence or absence of unwanted metal deposits on a substrate holder of an electroplating apparatus are described herein. In various embodiments, a plating sensor is used to detect unwanted metal deposits. The plating sensor may be mounted relatively far away from the area that it measures (e.g., the sensor target area). For instance, the plating sensor may be on one side of the electroplating apparatus (in some cases mounted on a drip shield), and the sensor target area may be on the opposite side of the electroplating apparatus. In this way, the plating sensor can measure across the electroplating apparatus. This placement provides a relatively deep depth of focus for the plating sensor, and provides some physical separation between the plating sensor and the electroplating chemistry. Both of these factors lead to more reliable detection results.
