  • Publication number: 20180208324
Abstract: Gas-flammability sensing systems and methods may be used to determine the flammability of gas mixtures in measurement volumes such as a fuel tank (e.g., an aircraft fuel tank). Gas-flammability sensing systems include a test cell structured to receive a gas sample, a heater in thermal communication with the test cell, and a gas meter configured to measure a physical property of the gas sample within the test cell related to the combustion state of the gas sample. The heater is configured to heat the gas sample to an elevated temperature less than the autoignition temperature of the gas sample. Methods of determining the flammability of a gas sample include collecting the gas sample, heating the gas sample to the elevated temperature, measuring the physical property of the gas sample after heating, and determining the flammability of a gas sample based upon the measured physical property.

  • Publication number: 20180208373
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for deterring pets or other animals from biting or chewing into medication containers. In some embodiments, the invention consists of two or more conductive metal sheets or strips in layers around the side of the container, which are wired to complete a circuit when pressed by the force of an animal's bite or touched by an animal's tongue. In some embodiments, the sheets or strips are spaced or held apart so that a normal human grip would not have sufficient force to complete the circuit. In some embodiments, the device slides onto the medication container with a friction fit, and is removable for use on future containers. In some embodiments, the circuit includes a battery-powered alarm to deter the animal. In other embodiments, the circuit delivers a mild electrical shock to the animal's mouth or tongue through the metal strips or sheets.

  • Publication number: 20180209314
Abstract: An exhaust conduit for a marine exhaust system includes an inlet end portion connectable to an exhaust manifold, an outlet end portion that directs exhaust gases toward an exhaust system outlet, a catalytic converter assembly arranged between the inlet and outlet end portions, and inner and outer tubes. The inner tube directs exhaust gases from the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter assembly, and the outer tube surrounds the inner tube to define a cooling liquid passage between the inner and outer tubes. A flange is secured to the inner and outer tubes at inlet ends thereof, the flange being connectable to an outlet of the exhaust manifold. The inner tube has a uniform diameter between the flange and the catalytic converter assembly, and is welded to the flange independently of the outer tube. First and second welds join the inner and outer tubes to the flange at radially inner and outer faces, respectively, of a flange rim.

  • Publication number: 20180209479
Abstract: A bearing includes a bearing pad for supporting a rotary component and a housing attached to or formed integrally with the bearing pad. The housing includes a flexible column extending towards the bearing pad for providing the bearing pad with an airflow. The column supports the bearing pad from a location inward of an outer periphery of the bearing pad along an axial direction of the bearing. With such a configuration, a resistance of the bearing pad along a radial direction of the bearing is less at the outer periphery than a resistance of the bearing pad along the radial direction proximate the column.

  • Publication number: 20180210753
Abstract: A system and method for supporting a scalable thread pool in a multi-threaded processing environments such as a distributed data grid. A work distribution system utilizes a collection of association piles to hold elements communicated between a service thread and multiple worker threads. Worker threads associated with the association piles poll elements in parallel. Polled elements are not released until returned from the worker thread. First in first out ordering of operations is maintained with respect to related elements by ensuring related elements are held in the same association pile and preventing polling of related elements until any previously polled and related elements have been released. By partitioning the elements across multiple association piles while ensuring proper ordering of operations with respect to related elements the scalable thread pool enables the use of large thread pools with reduced contention compared to a conventional single producer multiple consumer queue.
