Patent number: 9075904Abstract: A method of determining vulnerability of a cache memory includes associating a first counter with a cache element and periodically incrementing the first counter. When a read or other access that consumes the data in the cache element occurs, a current value of the first counter is accumulated. When a write or other cache access that modifies data in the cache element occurs, the first counter is reset. At the end of an evaluation period, the value in a total counter approximates the number of clock cycles during which data that was consumed was vulnerable. Dividing this value by the number of clock cycles approximates the vulnerability of this cache element. The vulnerability for a subset of all cache elements may be measured and extrapolated to obtain an estimate for the vulnerability of the cache memory as a whole.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2013Date of Patent: July 7, 2015Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Javier Carretero Casado, Xavier Vera, Tanausu Ramirez, Daniel Sanchez, Enric Herrero Abellanas, Nicholas Axelos

Publication number: 20140237018Abstract: A method and system for tracking distributed execution on on-chip multinode networks, the method comprising: initiating, by a first node coupled to an on-chip network, execution of instructions on the first node for a distributed agent; initiating, by the first node, execution of instructions on a second node coupled to the on-chip network for the distributed agent; initiating, by the second node, execution of instructions on a third node coupled to the on-chip network for the distributed agent, wherein the second node does not notify the first node of the initiated execution on the third node; providing reoccurring notification by the second and third nodes to all nodes coupled to the on-chip network that they continue to execute instructions for the distributed agent; and determining, by the first node, that execution of instructions for the distributed agent is complete by detecting an absence of reoccurring notifications from nodes the network.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 23, 2011Publication date: August 21, 2014Inventors: Matteo Monchiero, Javier Carretero Casado, Enric Herrero, Tanausu Ramirez, Xavier Vera

Publication number: 20140089593Abstract: Some implementations disclosed herein provide techniques and arrangements for recovery of data stored in memory shared by a number of processors through information stored in a cache directory. A core of a processor may initiate access (e.g., read or write) to particular data located in a first cache that is accessible to the core. In response to detecting an error associated with accessing the particular data, a location in the processor that includes the particular data may be identified and the particular data may be copied from the location to the first cache.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2011Publication date: March 27, 2014Inventors: Xavier Vera, Matteo Monchiero, Javier Carretero Casado, Enric Herrero, Tanausu Ramirez

Patent number: 8352812Abstract: Embodiments of apparatuses and methods for protecting data storage structures from intermittent errors are disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a plurality of data storage locations, execution logic, error detection logic, and control logic. The execution logic is to execute an instruction to generate a data value to store in one of the data storage locations. The error detection logic is to detect an error in the data value stored in the data storage location. The control logic is to respond to the detection of the error by causing the execution logic to re-execute the instruction to regenerate the data value to store in the data storage location, causing the error detection logic to check the data value read from the data storage location, and deactivating the data storage location if another error is detected.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2007Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Xavier Vera, Jaume Abella, Javier Carretero Casado, Antonio González
