  • Publication number: 20120236720
Abstract: A method and network entity for downloading detected video packets. A minimum bit rate MinBR equals ViBR+M, where M?0 is a configurable bit rate margin from an estimated video bit rate ViBR. A specific bit rate SBR is greater than MinBR. The method uses MinBR and SBR as a minimum bit rate limit and a maximum bit rate limit respectively between which the bit rate for delivering video in case of congestion is defined. The method can further compare the predefined specific bit rate with a real throughput of the user requesting video download with a QoS profile, and if there is congestion and if the throughput is larger than or equal to SBR, the priority value of a QoS profile to be used for downloading video in case of congestion.

  • Patent number: 8254861
Abstract: A method for controlling receiver diversity operation in a base station of a mobile telecommunications network. The base station includes a first receiver arrangement and a second receiver arrangement. The method includes activating the first receiver arrangement, thereby receiving signals at a first gain level. The method also includes activating the second receiver arrangement, thereby receiving signals at a second gain level, the second gain level being equal to or lower than the first gain level. The method further includes measuring baseband consumption at the base station at predetermined intervals. The method finally includes, when the baseband consumption exceeds a predetermined deactivation threshold THDE, deactivating the first receiver arrangement, thereby leaving only the second receiver arrangement active.

  • Patent number: 8254950
Abstract: In RAN sharing scenarios wherein radio spectrum allocated to multiple mobile network operators is split into at least one carrier, the steps for switching the configurations of carriers for RAN sharing are proposed here, defining: a pooled configuration by which all the operators share at least one carrier; and a dedicated configuration by which each operator has at least one carrier assigned for allocation of its traffic. The start point for switching is single carrier in the pooled configuration. Traffic load in the shared single carrier is constantly measured to compare it with a threshold, so that, when the measured load exceeds the threshold and if spectrum pre-emption is possible to create additional carriers, the switching from the single carrier in the pooled configuration to the plurality of carriers is performed, selecting the configuration for each carrier from three possible options: pooled, dedicated or a combination of both.

  • Publication number: 20120115462
Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating a femto-cell base station are disclosed. The femto-cell base station is configured to provide coverage to a User Equipment by connecting it to a core telecommunications network using a first frequency belonging to a first radio access technology. The method includes detecting that a fixed network connection of a femto-cell base station is not operative, and, in response to such failure, scanning frequencies in a second radio access technology available to a wireless network interface of the femto-cell base station, said second radio access technology being different than the first radio access technology. If there is any frequency available in said second radio access technology, said frequency in said second radio access technology is established as the operational frequency of a cellular wireless network connection established by the wireless network interface.

  • Publication number: 20120113797
Abstract: The described method provides a Network Controller (e.g., RNC) with an active set update procedure for application when activating STTD in the 3G networks. To avoid any call drop due to misalignments between the respective transmission diversity mode configurations of cells and the presence/absence of support for transmission diversity in user terminals, STTD mode is deactivated, in cases where the terminal is rejecting the Active Set Update message due to ‘invalid configuration’. The misalignments between the respective transmission diversity mode configurations may arise in a number of scenarios: handover from a cell with STTD deactivated to a cell with STTD activated, handover from a cell with STTD activated to a cell with STTD deactivated, or handover between cells with STTD activated. In all cases the solution consists of indicating to the UE the STTD Off configuration to obtain a success active set update procedure irrespective of the true configuration status.

  • Publication number: 20120108223
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reconfiguring an operational frequency and associated bandwidth used by a femto-cell base station are disclosed. The femto-cell is configured to provide coverage to a User Equipment by connecting to a core telecommunications network via a gateway device. The method includes checking a list of frequencies and associated bandwidths available to a wireless network interface of the femto-cell base station and determining if any of the frequencies in the list matches the operational frequency supported by the User Equipment to which the femto-cell base station is providing coverage. If at least one frequency matches the one supported by the User Equipment, a second frequency is selected from the list of frequencies, said second frequency being established as the operational frequency of the femto-cell base station.

  • Patent number: 8150479
Abstract: Fax transmission over a PLMN using a home gateway connected to the originating fax terminal equipment. A call setup request for a fax call destined towards terminating fax terminal equipment is sent. At the originating fax terminal equipment, a reply from the home gateway is received, sending data from the originating fax terminal equipment to the home gateway and storing them in the home gateway. A call establishment request from the home gateway to the PLMN and at least one connection establishment request from the home gateway to the terminating fax terminal equipment are sent. Waiting for a connection establishment confirmation from the terminating fax terminal equipment within a configurable time. When the connection establishment confirmation is received, sending from the home gateway stored data to the terminating fax terminal equipment through the PLMN and optionally a notification on the fax transmission status—to the originating fax terminal equipment.

  • Publication number: 20110122962
Abstract: A system and method are described for detecting and controlling the phase difference introduced to radio signals by transmission branches of a transmission system in a mobile communication network. Periodically a calibration signal is generated at an input of the transmission branches during a phase calibration mode. The phase difference introduced by the two transmission branches is detected by detecting the phase difference between the calibration signal, which has at least partly passed through the first transmission branch and the calibration signal, which has at least partly passed through the second transmission branch. The phase difference between the radio signals is controlled based on the detected phase difference.

  • Publication number: 20110085614
Abstract: Method and RNC for selecting transmission technology when a UE enters the network, which checks whether the UE is MIMO and, if so and only one carrier is available, allocates its traffic to said carrier and uses a S-CPICH to provide all MIMO traffic with a diversity pilot and Virtual Antenna Mapping for balance. If more than one carrier is available, the number of UEs, their radio conditions and load of carriers are checked periodically. If the carrier is busy only with MIMO and its load is higher than the load of the remaining carriers, diversity CPICH of STTD is selected; otherwise and only if the UEs vulnerable to STTD with good radio conditions exceed a certain number, the S-CPICH is selected. The RNC can reconfigure the network from transmitting MIMO traffic with STTD to using MIMO with S-CPICH or vice versa dynamically by periodical check of the load and UEs criteria for configuration change.

Abstract: Multicarrier transmit diversity in UTRAN for HSPA, comprising a baseband unit and a remote radio unit of a Node B configured for receiving a data stream from an RNC and subsequently generating N encoded data streams and corresponding RF output signals for downlink transmission over N antennas; wherein the remote radio unit transmits the N (preferably two) RF output signals using transmission diversity over different carrier frequencies. The remote radio unit can transmit each STTD encoded data stream over different frequency carriers or transmit one STTD encoded data stream over a frequency carrier at frequency f1 and the second STTD encoded data stream over a different frequency carrier, at frequency f2. The baseband unit can also transmit, using MIMO baseband processing, the N MIMO data streams over different frequency carriers.
