  • Publication number: 20110019563
Abstract: The invention refers to a method for scheduling traffic in a communication channel of a mobile communications network which detects small sized data bursts and prioritizes their transmission. The detection is performed by comparison with two thresholds, one being an indicator of the instantaneous size of the data burst and the second one being related to the size of said data burst along a given period of time. The invention is also related to a network scheduler comprising means for carrying out the above method.

  • Publication number: 20110019629
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for selecting a transmission technology (MIMO or non MIMO) for a HSDPA connection established between a RNC and a UE depending on the mobility of said UE, measured at the RNC as variations of the position of the UE. Then, if the connection is established with HSDPA MIMO technology and the position variations exceed a first pre-defined threshold, the connection is switched to HSPDA non MIMO technology.

  • Publication number: 20100271950
Abstract: A method is described for routing traffic between a base station and a next network node in a cellular communication network over one of a plurality of paths between them having mutually different latency levels. The path over which the traffic is routed is selected based on latency requirements of the traffic and the latency level of the paths. The latency requirements of the traffic are dependent on the service and/or user of the traffic.

  • Publication number: 20100273500
Abstract: A cellular communication network is described wherein the power of the pilot channel transmitted by the base station is decreased when the uplink interference in its cell area increases above a threshold value. As a result the mobile terminals at the edge of the cell area are triggered to reselect to another base station and the number of call drops and failed call set-ups is reduced.

  • Publication number: 20100227623
Abstract: In RAN sharing scenarios wherein radio spectrum allocated to multiple mobile network operators is split into at least one carrier, the steps for switching the configurations of carriers for RAN sharing are proposed here, defining: a pooled configuration by which all the operators share at least one carrier; and a dedicated configuration by which each operator has at least one carrier assigned for allocation of its traffic. The start point for switching is single carrier in the pooled configuration. Traffic load in the shared single carrier is constantly measured to compare it with a threshold, so that, when the measured load exceeds the threshold and if spectrum pre-emption is possible to create additional carriers, the switching from the single carrier in the pooled configuration to the plurality of carriers is performed, selecting the configuration for each carrier from three possible options: pooled, dedicated or a combination of both.

  • Publication number: 20100215000
Abstract: Within the 3G networks, the HSDPA use a scheduler in the Node B that has to be optimised to differentiate traffic/users to provide the appropriate Quality of Service to everyone. There are several kinds of application/user that need different QoS priorities not only in terms of throughput but also in terms of delay. Most of the algorithms for HSDPA scheduler work based on throughput and some of them also are based on delay but with complicated functions difficult to implement in the HW of the current 3G networks. It is needed to simplify the algorithms. This invention allows a more efficient control of the delay of the traffic involved in the different applications in the 3G networks when going through the HSDPA scheduler and also guarantees the best Quality of Service (QoS) to the customers.
