  • Patent number: 6469021
Abstract: Non-peptide compounds that act as antagonists of the intestinal hormone glucagons-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) have a 9H-b-carboline central motif. The compounds exhibit advantageous physical, chemical and biological properties and inhibit GLP-1 peptide binding to the GLP-1 receptor and/or prevent activation of the receptor by bound GLP-1. The invention further relates to a method of inhibiting the binding of GLP-1 to the GLP-1 receptor and a method of inhibiting the activation of the GLP-1 receptor. Intermediate compounds useful for making non-peptide GLP-1 receptor antagonists are also described.

  • Patent number: 6459084
Abstract: A small array of antenna-coupled infrared bolometer detectors is connected in parallel. This small array is suitable as an individual area-receiving pixel of an infrared focal plane array. These pixels will have better coupling efficiency to extended sources than are possible with individual antenna-coupled sensors, which have a spatial response on the order of one wavelength in dimension. This pixel can be used to provide the advantages of antenna-coupled IR sensors (e.g., fast response, wavelength tuning, and polarization tuning) while increasing the collection efficiency of the sensors to non-laser sources. When integrated into focal plane arrays, these detectors can be used in remote-sensing systems to facilitate enhanced image recognition, feature extraction and image-clutter removal.

  • Patent number: 6393254
Abstract: The object of the call masking system for mobile telephones is to prevent the operation of mobile telephones which are present in a closed environment without interfering with the normal operation of other telephones which are outside the closed environment. To this effect, the system generates interference signals which will prevent the mobile telephones from receiving the signaling channels sent by the base stations (for example, GSM call signaling channel). The system monitors the power with which the carriers of the neighboring base stations are received inside the room and will adjust the interference power radiating in the signaling channels so that the carrier to interference signal ratio will make the operation of the mobile telephones impossible. The system can be applied to closed environments wherein mobile telephones should not ring when receiving a call.

  • Patent number: 5831095
Abstract: A powerful new anti-convulsant and anti-ischemic pharmaceutical, 5-aminocarbonyl-5H-dibenzo?a,d!cycloheptene-5,10-imine is prepared according to a novel synthesis which converts the starting material, commercially available dibenzosubernone to ADCI without the use of chromatographic purification, hazardous reagents or extreme conditions. The starting material is converted to the corresponding imine through ammonia exposure, and directly converted with acetone cyanohydrin in the presence of sodium cyanide to a 5-amino, 5-cyanocycloheptene intermediate. The intermediate is cyclized using bromine, followed by a reduction of the bromine-carbon bond using sodium cyanoborohydride. The target compound is obtained through selective hydrolysis. An overall yield of 46 percent or better is obtained.
