  • Publication number: 20090240809
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product for thin-provisioning of storage in a storage system by an adviser is provided. A workload profile of the storage is created from performance data. The workload profile includes a measurement of changed data per a predetermined time and resource utilization data over a period of time. A capacity estimate is derived from the measurement of changed data per a predetermined time. A placement estimate is derived from the resource utilization data obtained over a period of time. A target capacity is recommended to a user based on the capacity estimate. A placement location is recommended to a user based on the placement estimate. A predicted resource utilization is provided to the user based on the capacity estimate or the placement estimate.

  • Patent number: 7416489
Abstract: A method and system for computing scores and determining a winner between a plurality of users playing a plurality of different games on an interactive gaming network. Players are sequentially assigned to a player group as they initially log on to the gaming network. Each player selects and plays a game to produce a present raw score value which is converted into a present ranked percentage score value by calculating the percentage of past raw score values for the selected game that are below the present raw score value. A handicap value is added to the present raw score value to determine a normalized game score that can be compared to the normalized game scores of other users playing the same or different games in any combination. An average of a minimum number of game scores are used to compare players within the same player group.

  • Patent number: 6746848
Abstract: A method for quantitating cellular proteins in tissue, by means of a cell imaging densitometer in conjunction with immunohistological staining and a reference standard, is provided. Unlike prior art methods, which provide ordinal measures of relative amounts of protein among different cells, the method enables the quantitation of antigenic proteins in terms of absolute mass of protein/tumor or protein/patient, molecules of protein per cell, and volume or fraction of a tissue sample expressing the protein of interest. The method is useful for research purposes in the study of protein expression, and is shown to improve the accuracy of clinical histopathological analysis of tumor tissue sections for diagnosis and prognosis. The method is expected to be useful for prescribing in situ treatment dosages.

  • Patent number: 6620022
Abstract: A stand-alone drive mechanism for a toy racing car. The mechanism includes individually controlled motors for operating simulated main drive wheels of a race car vehicle, a semi-concealed actual drive wheel for the vehicle, and a steering system. The mechanism is principally intended for use in connection with a construction toy set such as “K'NEX,” to enable construction of toy drag racing vehicles and the like. The simulated main drive wheels are elevated slightly above the support surface and can be rotated independently of the actual drive wheel, to simulate a “burn-out” sequence which typically precedes a drag race. By means of a remote radio control, the main drive wheels can be initially rotated to simulate “burn-out”, followed immediately by operation of the actual drive wheel to send a vehicle down a race path.

  • Patent number: 6567071
Abstract: A positioning controller having a receiving side for receiving light from a light source is disclosed. The receiving side includes an axis extending perpendicularly therefrom, and a vertical plane and a horizontal plane intersecting at the axis. The positioning controller includes three sensors. The reference sensor is positioned between the other two sensors, and is masked to receive light within a predetermined range of acute angles measured from the axis. One of the other two sensors is a vertical angle sensor that is masked to receive a larger quantity of light from a first side of the horizontal plane and from a second side of the horizontal plane. The third sensor is a horizontal angle sensor that is masked to receive a larger quantity of light from a first side of the vertical plane than from a second side of the vertical plane.
