  • Patent number: 6973667
Abstract: Improved approaches for delivering media programs to viewers (e.g., subscribers) are disclosed. The media programs are typically broadcast in accordance with a schedule. The media program can be delivered to viewers through multicast or unicast. According to one aspect, the media programs are buffered (e.g., cached) in a data packet format such that producing unicasts for particular viewers requires less computation and resources such that more concurrent unicasts are able to be effectively supported.

  • Patent number: 6970535
Abstract: A two way wireless hand held PDA device that allows remote mobile creation of messages and sending of those messages to recipients via different delivery modes. The recipients can be formed into groups by different criteria, the messages can be created or imported and edited from the remote device, and the messages can be delivered via more than one mode. Status of messages sent and in process is maintained as is account information related to the message and the user. Also messages can be formatted, and can be conditionally sent and receivers can perform automatic actions when specific messages are received. (And actions can be carried out in remote systems based on the responses to messages sent).

  • Publication number: 20050177227
Abstract: A method for producing an aortic or mitral heart valve prosthesis and the resulting aortic or mitral heart valve. The method is characterized in that it essentially consists in producing the prosthesis by shaping a textile material. • Publication number: 20050144640
Abstract: Improved techniques to record one or more scheduled programs for later viewing are disclosed. Without compromising the quality of a broadcast program being currently delivered in a required bandwidth of a network, a buffer mechanism is provided to accommodate using of the remaining available bandwidth of the network to deliver the requested one or more scheduled programs. In one embodiment, the buffer mechanism is controlled or configured to convert transmission rates of the scheduled programs to be recorded in accordance with the remaining available bandwidth. Thus the required bandwidth needed to ensure the quality of the scheduled program being currently delivered for viewing is not affected. The buffered contents are transmitted to the client machines via a broadband local loop using uni-cast, multi-cast or a combination of both. An optional backup copy of the locally recorded scheduled programs is stored in a centrally located storage server farm.

  • Publication number: 20050113111
Abstract: A method is disclosed of tracing a path to be taken by a mobile terminal receiving electromagnetic waves transmitted by transmitter stations, the path being traced by an operating platform, which method comprises a learning phase comprising a taking of the path during which, exclusively on the path, a periodic routine learning recording of successive groups of samples is made in a route memory, a sample comprising at least one value of each of the frequencies received at each of the periodic recordings, and a receive level associated with that frequency, and a comparison of the received levels between a group of pn samples recorded during a sampling of rank n and one recorded preceding group of rank lower than n, a comparison criterion discriminating between remarkable groups and ordinary groups.

  • Publication number: 20050037729
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for monitoring a person carrying a cellular telephone through a communication network wherein: An expected path for the monitored person is determined by identifying a sequence of successive places or checkpoints, and A real path followed by the monitored person is detected and compared with the expected path, both in space and in sequence, so that An alert is sent to at least one individual, called alertee, through the communication network when the real path differs from the expected path in place, sequence or in both place and sequence. The invention also relates to a cellular telephone and a server implementing such method.

  • Patent number: 6769127
Abstract: A media system that centrally manages and stores media contents and also controls the delivery of media content to subscribers is disclosed. According to one aspect, an administrator can control program scheduling, rates, service packages and system configuration for a media delivery system. Additionally, the administrator may also control billing, transaction monitoring, and customer relations. According to another aspect, the media delivery system provides subscribers with centrally managed storage for paused or recorded media. Still another aspect is that the media delivery system can restrict various administrators to different modules of the media delivery system.

  • Publication number: 20030034413
Abstract: A tubular paper yarn carrier for carrying a yarn strand includes a carrier wall defining inner wall surface and outer wall surfaces on opposite sides thereof. One end of the carrier wall defines a top and an opposed end of the carrier wall defines a base. An annular lip is formed on a terminal portion of the base and extends outwardly therefrom for strengthening the base and preventing slippage of the yarn strand off of the base of the carrier. In addition, an annular nose is formed on the inner wall surface proximate the top of the carrier. The annular nose has an outermost edge defining a diameter less than a diameter defined by the inner wall surface for nesting in the base of a like yarn carrier. The lip and nose are integrally formed on the carrier by a rotating tool.
