  • Publication number: 20090270891
Abstract: Methods and devices that provide reduced transverse motion in a curved ultrasonic blade and/or ultrasonic surgical instrument with functional asymmetries. An ultrasonic blade in accordance with embodiments of the present invention includes a curved functional portion of an ultrasonic blade, wherein the center of mass of the curved functional portion lies on the mid-line of a waveguide delivering ultrasonic energy to the blade. Balancing in accordance with embodiments of the present invention, using placement of the center of mass of the curved portion of the blade appropriately, provides blade balance in a proximal portion of the blade, without reduction of mass and inherent stress increase proximal to the end-effector.

  • Patent number: 7351280
Abstract: A composition and method for producing interconnective macroporous, resorbable and injectable calcium phosphate-based cements (MICPCs). The composition of the invention sets to poorly crystalline apatitic calcium phosphate after mixing a powder component and an aqueous solution. The multiphasic calcium phosphate components in the cement resorb at different rates allowing the timely replacement by new bone. The interconnected macroporosity in the cement allows for vascularization, entrapment of growth factors, cell colonization and tissue ingrowth. This MICPC can be used for dental and medical applications relating to bone repair, augmentation, reconstruction, regeneration, and osteoporosis treatment, and also for drug delivery, and as scaffolds for tissue engineering.

  • Patent number: 7314489
Abstract: A method and apparatus to facilitate nutritional malabsorption by diverting digestive secretions, such as bile or pancreatic secretions. A tube is positioned substantially within the small intestine. The tube comprises a proximal end which when deployed is operative to receive digestive secretions, a distal end which when deployed is operative to discharge the digestive secretions into the alimentary tract, and a tube wall having an inner surface and an outer surface, the tube wall inner surface defining passage extending between the proximal and distal ends. When deployed the passage is operative to transfer the digestive secretions from the proximal end to the distal end thereby reducing digestive contact between the digestive secretions and food in the small intestine.

  • Publication number: 20050261861
Abstract: For testing of the appliance, a test adapter is used as an interface, which is inserted into the smart card reader of the appliance. Advantageously, a contact of the smart card reader is used for testing of the appliance, which is not used by the appliance, when operating with a smart card. One of the contacts used for testing of the appliance is in particularly the contact for the programming voltage VPP according to the ISO/IEC 7816-3:1997(E) standard. In a preferred embodiment, the test adapter comprises a serial adapter interface to a RS232 plug, which is coupled to a computer for testing of the appliance. This allows to use the XON/XOFF protocol via two data lines for testing of the appliance. The electronics part of the test adapter is powered via the smart card reader interface, when the test adapter is inserted into the smart card reader of the appliance. The appliance is especially a set-top box or a digital satellite receiver.

  • Publication number: 20050123460
Abstract: A method for the production of aluminum from bauxites containing aluminum monohydate of the diaspore or boehmite type which may contain more than 1.5% by weight of calcium carbonates. The ore is digested by the following steps: a1) a suspension, produced from the milled bauxite ore and the concentrated aluminate liquor is fed to a plant containing a series of n autoclaves and a series of m regulators supplying m tubular reheaters across m autoclaves with steam; a2) the suspension first travels across the series of autoclaves, and on exiting the last autoclave A, the digestion of the ore is practically complete and a3) the suspension then travels across the series of regulators, the condensation water from the steam V coming from the regulator D and feeding the reheater R is collected in a purge pot P. In at least one position in the series of regulators, the suspension is diluted on entering a regulator with the water coming from the condensation of the steam from one or several upstream regulators.

  • Publication number: 20030212778
Abstract: An object-oriented modeling approach is used to represent telecommunication services, parameters and calculation expressions associated with the parameters. Preferably, the Unified Modeling Language (“UML”) is used in this regard. Further still, UML “sequence diagrams” are used to represent the calculation expressions as a sequence of UML methods that accomplishes what is required by the expression. The use of UML to represent calculation expressions simplifies editing and creating the expressions and permits a visual representation of the expressions.
