  • Patent number: 8291453
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for embedding and associating triggers within a promotion or other similar content element with the event being promoted are disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment, consumer premises equipment (CPE) such as a digital set-top box is used to interface between the user and an external network (such as an HFC cable network) and facilitate the user selecting and scheduling viewing or recording of a subsequent event (e.g., broadcast movie) via the promotion itself. The trigger(s) within the promotion allow the user to contemporaneously select the promoted event for viewing, recording, etc. without any further action. The trigger(s) then initiates tuning of the user's receiver to the scheduled event at the appropriate date and time. This approach obviates additional actions by the user (such as programming their DVR), and also permits the user to commit to viewing the event when their interest level is highest; i.e., contemporaneous with the promotion.

  • Publication number: 20120008331
Abstract: Light fixtures including at least an enclosure, a heat sink, and a light-emitting diode. In one embodiment the heat sink has a first portion having fins (that protrudes outside of the enclosure) and a second portion to house and mount the LEDs (that is positioned within the enclosure). Certain embodiments also provide for gaskets and other structure to prevent leakage between the heat sink and the enclosure, such that the light fixture is water-resistant. Thus, embodiments of the light fixture may house LEDs and related electric components inside a water-resistant enclosure and cool those components by transferring thermal energy to the surrounding air.

  • Publication number: 20110300916
Abstract: A multi-level competition includes a competition between on-stage competition content, a competition between off-stage judges, and a competition between at-home players. The competition content (e.g., multiple television advertisements, singing contestants, etc.) is provided to at-home players, who provide a rating for each content offering and rank the content offerings. At a later time, a group of off-stage judges view the competition content, provide a rating for each content offering, and rank the content offerings. One or more accurate responses are identified by a control which may be, for example, a target demographic. A winning content offering is identified based on the one or more accurate responses. The off-stage judges and at-home players are ranked based on whether their ratings/rankings are in sync with the control, Winners may be selected from each of the group of off-stage judges and the group of at-home players.

  • Patent number: 6863258
Abstract: A motorized damper door assembly for use in freezing temperature applications includes a damper frame, a damper door having, a mounting portion rotatably mounted to the frame, and a seal member having a vertically extending moisture barrier adjacent the mounting portion. The door mounting portion and the moisture barrier together form a reservoir inside the door mounting portion to prevent moisture from seeping directly into the motor housing below the door mounting portion. Consequently, as moisture accumulation in the motor housing is avoided, associated damper jamming and impaired performance issues are also avoided.

  • Publication number: 20040237104
Abstract: A television recording and playback system such as a personal video recorder digitally encodes a television program in handheld format and stores it in local memory. The stored handheld format television program can be outputted from the television recording and playback system, using either wired or wireless protocols, to a handheld device such as a personal data assistant for viewing on the handheld device. Alternatively the handheld device can output the television program to a different device such as another handheld device. The selection of programs for recording in large display format, handheld format, or simultaneously in both formats, can be by using a graphical user interface generated by the television recording and playback system or by the handheld device, and preferably with an electronic program guide containing information about programs to be, and being, broadcast.

  • Patent number: 6655169
Abstract: A refrigerator airflow distribution assembly includes an airflow diverter in flow communication with freezer compartment air. The diverter includes a primary flow path and at least one diverter opening therethrough, and together with a cover forms a secondary flow path in flow communication with the first flow path through the diverter opening. Freezer compartment air is directed to the primary flow path, and a portion of the air in the primary flow path flows through the diverter openings and into the secondary flow path, and is introduced to the fresh food compartment through one or more vents in the cover. Metered airflow through the diverter reduces temperature gradients in the refrigerator, as well as provides a regulated temperature source for a storage drawer in the fresh food storage compartment.

  • Patent number: 6539729
Abstract: A refrigerator includes a vertically extending airflow distribution assembly for reducing vertical temperature gradients therein, and laterally extending air passages are in flow communication with the air distribution assembly for reducing horizontal temperature gradients therein. A single fan simultaneously directs freezer compartment air into the air distribution assembly, the laterally extending passages and into a storage drawer for temperature regulation therein. A damper is located in flow communication with a light assembly and is selectively positionable to cool the refrigeration compartment through the air distribution assembly and the laterally extending passages, as well as to remove heat from the light assembly that may damage a refrigeration compartment liner.

  • Publication number: 20020198050
Abstract: An Internet or phone polling system provides audiences of competitive events the opportunity to interact with these events by determining which contestants may compete and the activities the contestants will perform. The audience may then judge the performance of each contestant by rating performances. The audience members compete against one another by predicting the overall top rated contestants. The audience members compete against one another while controlling and determining the outcome of the competitive event they are viewing. The system provides viewers as well as the contestants a chance to win awards, cash and prizes as a result of their participation.
