  • Publication number: 20050063361
Abstract: A telephone capable of placing or receiving calls over the PSTN or a packet network. The telephone can store multiple telephone numbers for each potential called party along with preferences that govern the order of selecting telephone numbers to service any given outgoing call. Some or all of the telephone numbers can be associated with a presence service. Presence indicators stored in the telephone are dynamically updated via the packet network connection and are used as part of the telephone number selection algorithm. The preferred embodiment is a wireless system having a base station and a remote device.

  • Patent number: 6622121
Abstract: Methods and systems for testing speech recognition systems are disclosed in which the speech recognition device to be tested is directly monitored in accordance with a text-to-speech device. The collection of reference texts to be used by the speech recognition device is provided by a text-to-speech device preferably, in one embodiment, implemented within the same computer system. In such an embodiment, a digital audio file stored within a storage area of a computer system is generated from a reference text using a text-to-speech device. The digital audio file is later read using a speech recognition device to generate a decoded (or recognized) text representative of the reference text. The reference text and the decoded text are compared in an alignment operation and an error report representative of the recognition rate of the speech recognition device is finally generated.

  • Patent number: 5283888
Abstract: A method and system is described for enabling rapid access from voice-responsive interface processor to applications running on a plurality of connected host processors, each host processor using screens to communicate with the interface processor. The method is performed by the interface processor and includes the steps of: establishing virtual terminal session with each host processor that initializes applications on the host processor and places them in an idle state, awaiting further commands; responding to a user's request that requires one such application by accessing a virtual terminal session in existence with the host processor on which the application is running, entering user data in a screen from the application stored by the interface processor, and transmitting the screen with its entered data to the host processor, whereby the host processor immediately processes the screen; and transmits a new screen to the interface processor, the new screen containing data for the user.
