  • Publication number: 20220324194
Abstract: An impact-absorbing structure that includes a plurality of interconnected cells forming a sheet, each cell having a sidewall and a longitudinal axis. Each cell may be configured to absorb energy through plastic deformation in response to an applied load, and a sidewall of at least one cell may include a geometric perturbation that is oriented in a direction that is not parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cell. The geometric perturbation may reduce the load required to cause plastic deformation of the cell.

  • Publication number: 20210245630
Abstract: An occupant detection system includes a controller, a sensing electrode, and a shield electrode, the electrodes disposed in a vehicle seat. The controller is electrically coupled to the sensing electrode and shield electrode by a sensing circuit. The controller is configured to send an input signal to the sensing electrode, the shield electrode, or both and measures current, impedance, or capacitance values to determine the presence of an object on the seat, to classify the object, or both.

  • Patent number: 10834987
Abstract: Embodiments herein employ a novel strategy based on a floating cellular liner that acts as a torsional suspension system to dampen rotational acceleration, such as head acceleration in a helmet, in response to an oblique impact. Specifically, the torsional suspension consists of an anisotropic cellular liner that is at least partially recessed inside a more rigid adjacent shell, relative to which the cellular liner can simultaneously undergo translation and in-plane compression.

  • Patent number: 10071779
Abstract: A structural assembly for load carrying chassis of vehicles includes beams extending fore and aft on the chassis with passages laterally through the beam webs. I-beams extend through the passages through the beams. Brackets are fixed to the principal beams at the passages. The brackets each include a bracket web, a bracket flange extending from the bracket web and two bosses on the bracket web extending past the bracket flange. The bosses of each of the brackets extend to either side of lower I-beam flanges. The bracket flanges extend through the passages in contact with the beams in the passages. The brackets are shown as integrally formed or as composite assemblies of a plate and an extrusion.

  • Patent number: 10048217
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the direct measurement of specific heat at constant pressure (Cp). A control fluid of a known amount is supplied to a near adiabatic test chamber having a volume. A collapsible bladder within the test chamber is inflated with an incompressible fluid, changing the volume of the test chamber. The change in pressure and temperature of the control fluid relative to the change in volume of the test chamber is measured. The steps are repeated with a sample fluid. The isentropic enthalpy and specific heat at constant pressure of the sample fluid is determined.
