  • Publication number: 20130259283
Abstract: A multi-speaker audio system is configured to provide flexible use of speakers in any number of different environments. The multi-speaker system may include a stationary speaker unit and a portable speaker unit. The portable speaker unit may be operated in conjunction with, or separate from, the stationary speaker unit. When connected or otherwise used with the stationary speaker unit, the portable speaker unit may receive audio signals and pass at least some of the signals and/or corresponding data to the stationary speaker unit for output. When disconnected from the stationary speaker unit, the portable speaker unit may receive audio signals and output sound accordingly. The stationary speaker unit may also be able to receive audio signals and pass at least some of the signals or corresponding audio data to the portable speaker unit or output the data itself.

  • Patent number: 8473235
Abstract: The present invention provides apparatus for scanning a product to detect metal in that product. The apparatus comprises a drive coil (4), for generating an electromagnetic field in the product, and a detection coil arranged to detect fluctuations in the magnetic field caused by the presence of a metallic particle in the product. A drive circuit (26) for the drive coil (4) comprises a plurality of switches (19 to 22) driven by a controller (16), which switch alternately connect the drive coil across a potential difference to cause the drive coil to be driven at an operating frequency determined by operation of the switches. Using a switching circuit to drive the drive coil (4) greatly increases the number of frequencies at which the drive coil may be operated. The invention has particular application to the food industry.

  • Publication number: 20070174072
Abstract: A computer generated representation of artwork surrounded by framing components is created by the steps of positioning the artwork and framing components at designated locations on a template, taking a digital photograph of the artwork and components, transferring the photograph into computer memory, identifying the components in the photograph from their features, generating images of component surrounds from the stored photograph, and displaying an electronic representation of the artwork within the component surrounds. The condition of the artwork may also be recorded by displaying an image of the stored artwork photograph on a monitor along with condition indicating icons, positioning the icons on the artwork image to indicate the location of defects, and storing with image with positioned icons.

  • Publication number: 20070087982
Abstract: Applicants have used microarrays, gene expression profiling, and gene silencing methods to identify and provide a plurality of ‘validated’ virus-induced cellular gene sequences (e.g., HMG20B, HRH1, NP and c-YES (src family kinases)) and pathways useful as therapeutic targets for modulation of viral-mediated cellular effects. Particular embodiments provide therapeutic compositions, and methods for modulation of viral infection, replication, maturation, progression, or other virally-related conditions or diseases, comprising inhibition of virally-induced gene sequences and gene products. Additional embodiments provide screening assays for compounds useful to modulate viral infection, replication, maturation or progression, or viral-related conditions or diseases. Further embodiments provide diagnostic and/or prognostic assays for viral infection, replication, maturation or progression. Preferably, the viruses all selected from the group consisting of retroviruses (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20060218053
Abstract: A merchant generates a customized service strategy related to a suite of electronic transaction services hosted by a service provider. The custom strategy specifies services to perform, and possibly an order in which to perform the services, by a service provider in relation to an electronic transaction associated with the merchant. Through use of a user interface, the strategy can be represented as a graphical decision tree, with terminal nodes representing services or actions. A customized strategy is transmitted to a service provider, as is transaction related information, whereby the service provider can service the transaction according to the strategy and based on the transaction information. Scheduling information that specifies different strategies to apply to different transaction scenarios can be generated. A strategy is selected by a service provider based on the scheduling information and transaction information, and is used to service one or more electronic transactions.

  • Publication number: 20060021031
Abstract: A method and system to protect users against potentially fraudulent activities associated with spoof web sites are described. According to one aspect of the present invention, the URL of a document downloaded via a web browser client is compared to the URLs in a list of URLs for known spoof sites. If the URL for the downloaded document is found in the list of URLs for known spoof sites, a security indicator is displayed to the user to indicate to the user that the downloaded document is associated with a known spoof site. According to another aspect of the invention, a security server maintains a master black list and periodically communicates updates of the master black list to the local list of a client security application.

  • Publication number: 20050196561
Abstract: There is described a recording medium and related ink jet printing method which comprises the steps of: 1) printing onto a receiving medium which comprises a substrate coated with at least one ink receiving layer comprising polymeric particles having film forming temperatures between 60° to 140° C. and a binder, and 2) heating the printed image to form a stable image-protecting coating. Preferably the printed image is heated by passing through a laminator. Alternatively the printed image is heated by passing through a laminator in conjunction with a second, inert releasing sheet which is held against the top surface of the print material. The second sheet may be used to produce a particular appearance to the final image such as high gloss or a security pattern. The receiving layers of the invention provide bright images after printing and fusing which show a high level of scratch and rub resistance even when wet.
