  • Patent number: 7665311
Abstract: Systems and apparatus for heating or cooling food to an appropriate temperature for service using a standard food service container, such as a chafing dish or food cart. A thermally conductive plate has a plurality of Peltier chips attached thereto to drive a temperature difference. The Peltier chips are in thermally conductive contact with a heat exchanger. A heat transfer liquid circulates through tubing in the heat exchanger and a separate radiator, perpetuating the temperature difference at the plate. The heat exchanger and radiator may be spaced apart by a gap. One or more fans may be placed to encourage airflow through the radiator. A coolant reservoir and pump may be included.

  • Patent number: 7651055
Abstract: A drainmast for discharging fluid from a body in motion, such as an aircraft in flight, may include a barrier disposed at a distal portion of the drainmast. The barrier may extend downstream from the drainmast trailing edge, and may be disposed at a negative angle of attack to a local free-stream airflow, thereby forming a downdraft over the barrier to prevent migration of discharged fluid towards an aircraft skin. In some embodiments, the drainmast may include one or more vanes, disposed internally within a discharge conduit of the drainmast, for deflecting fluid flow within the drainmast towards a direction of free-stream airflow outside the drainmast. Methods for channeling fluid away from an external surface of an aircraft in flight are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20070240021
Abstract: An autonomous error recovery approach is provided for a memory device of a computing system. In response to a request for data, addressed data and associated control information of the memory device are tested for error. If error is detected, the contents of an addressed storage compartment of a second memory device are automatically retrieved and provided responsive to the request. As an example, the memory device may be a cache and the second memory device may be main memory for the computing system.

  • Publication number: 20060230185
Abstract: A processor node of a network is provided which includes one or more processors and a virtualized channel adapter. The virtualized channel adapter is operable to reference a table to determine whether a destination of the communication is supported by the virtualized channel adapter. When the destination is supported for routing via hardware, the virtualized channel adapter is operable to route the communication via hardware to at least one of a physical port and a logical port of the virtualized channel adapter. Otherwise, when the destination is not supported for routing via hardware, the virtualized channel adapter is operable to route the communication via firmware to a virtual port of the virtualized channel adapter. A corresponding method and a recording medium having information recorded thereon for performing such method are also provided herein.

  • Publication number: 20060159619
Abstract: A functional biologically active particle conjugate useful for diagnosis and treating cancer as a bioportal comprises a nanoscale particle having associated therewith an intracellular targeting ligand comprising a PNA, or another nuclease resistant oligonucleotide analog such as MOE-mRNA (2?-methoxyethyl mRNA) or LNA (locked nucleic acid), having a sequence that binds selectively to an uniquely expressed or overexpressed mRNA specific to the cancer or disease state in a living mammal. In one aspect the uniquely overexpressed target specific to the cancer or disease state is the unr mRNA which can be targeted by the antisense sequence PNA50.

  • Publication number: 20060101306
Abstract: A few inexpensive hardware facilities are incorporated in a tightly synchronized cross checked design. These facilities allow initialization software to quickly bring the two processors to the same state by rapid, repeated resets and execution of the initialization software. The resets are done in a way as to be transparent to the rest of the system and to the end user.

  • Publication number: 20060039870
Abstract: The present invention provides for non-invasive treatment of nerve agent poisoning by administering nerve agent neutralizing enzymes to the pulmonary epithelium of a subject, by inhalation, where they accumulate within the lungs. Localization of such enzymes in the pulmonary epithelium results in neutralization of the nerve agents at the lungs. As a result, nerve agents move by diffusion out of the blood through the pulmonary capillaries, duc to the organophosphorus nerve agents rapid diffusion across the cell membranes of the body via diffusion, down their concentration gradients. The present invention presents a practical method of administering nerve agent neutralizing enzymes, without requiring passage into the blood plasma, and without requiring blood plasma activity of the enzyme.

  • Publication number: 20050262679
Abstract: A device for engaging first and second terminal ends of a vehicle track and drawing the terminal ends together in order to facilitate their connection to form a closed loop of track. The device comprises first and second coupling ends for engaging respective terminal ends of the track; a terminal guide plate; and two guide rods and a threaded drive rod extending between the first coupling end and the terminal guide plate and passing through the second coupling end. Fittings are provided at both ends of the drive rod. Turning either or both of the fittings causes the drive rod to turn, which causes the second coupling end to move toward the first, thereby drawing the first and second terminal ends together. In alternative embodiments, this screw-type drive mechanism is replaced by ratchet-type and hydraulic/pneumatic-type drive mechanisms.
