  • Patent number: 8098049
Abstract: A technique for charging a wireless device includes detecting a physical presence of a user with respect to the device. A magnetic force is provided between a charging pad and the device only when the physical presence of the user, with respect to the device, is not detected. In this case, a rechargeable power source of the device receives a charging current from the charging pad via conductive contacts of the device.

  • Publication number: 20110055627
Abstract: A first device captures session data for each application session that is executing on a first device, and provides the session data to a second device in order for the second device to reconstruct the application sessions. A first device identifies one or more application sessions currently executing on the first device. Each of the application sessions include a media object and session data, which includes a media object identifier that corresponds to the media object and a first device media session position. The first device captures the session data transmits the captured session data to one or more second devices. The second devices are adapted to reconstruct at least one of the application sessions using the received session data and positions the application sessions at a second device media session position that corresponds to the received first device media session position.

  • Publication number: 20100251105
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system are disclosed for modifying substitution cost. A substitution cost module calculates a substitution cost between a first character of a first string and a second character of a second string. A spatial vector module calculates a spatial vector between the first character and the second character from a location of a first key representing the first character on a keyboard and a location of a second key representing the second character on the keyboard. The spatial vector module modifies the substitution cost if the spatial vector is less than a spatial threshold. An edit distance module calculates an edit distance between the first string and the second string using the modified substitution cost for the substitution cost of substituting the first character with the second character.

  • Publication number: 20100146133
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for synchronizing inbound and outbound data in an environment that offers multiple data pathways. When an attempt to send data by a host computer fails, the host computer notifies a secondary device with a separate network connection of the failure. The secondary device attempts to send the data over its separate network connection. If the secondary device fails to send the data, the host computer generates new attempts to send the data over its network connection. The secondary device does the same if the host computer continues to fail in its attempts to send the data. When either the host computer or the secondary device sends the outbound data, it notifies the other of the successful send. The devices then stop further attempts to transmit the data. For inbound data, the host computer and secondary device obtain unique identifiers for inbound data items, compare them, and request from the other those inbound data items that it has not received.

  • Publication number: 20100138546
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system are disclosed for reassigning a network address. A detection module detects a routing table change for a host. The host is in communication with a least one network. A client is also in communication with the host over a network interface using a first address. A generation module generates a second address for the client. The second address does not compete with other addresses on the at least one network. An interface module disables the network interface to the client. The interface module then enables the network interface between the client and the host. A communication module receives a request for a new address from the client. The communication module assigns the second address to the client.

  • Publication number: 20100090963
Abstract: Fingertip-sized discrete areas are provided on a slate computer and have different tactile characteristics than the remainder of the surface on which they are disposed. The discrete areas are arranged to mimic home keys of a keyboard and each discrete area corresponds to a respective home key. In this way, a user is given tactile feedback of when fingers are properly placed in the home position, with home key finger placement triggering the presentation of a full keyboard on screen. Other embodiments do not use tactilely distinct keys, with simultaneous placement of two or more fingers on the computer triggering display of the virtual keyboard.

  • Publication number: 20100073409
Abstract: A technique that facilitates modifying (e.g., erasing or smudging) digital ink includes selecting a digital ink drying time based on a selected digital ink type. An ink stroke associated with the selected digital ink type is then tracked. The ink stroke may then be modified, prior to an end of the digital ink drying time, without using a dedicated tool.

  • Publication number: 20100073305
Abstract: A technique for adjusting graphical information displayed on a touchscreen of a device includes detecting a first input to the touchscreen. Which one of multiple instruments was utilized to provide the first input is then determined. The graphical information displayed on the touchscreen is then sized based on which one of the multiple instruments was utilized to provide the first input.

  • Publication number: 20090322789
Abstract: A system, method, and program product is provided that automatically allocates a display screen into two areas when the display screen is pivoted from a landscape orientation to a portrait orientation. A hypervisor receives a pivot request (e.g., from a user) to pivot the display screen from a landscape orientation to a portrait orientation. When the display screen is oriented in the landscape orientation, a primary operating system displays its data on the display screen. Upon reception of the pivot request, the hypervisor allocates the display screen into a primary display area and a secondary display area. The hypervisor then displays data originating from the primary operating system in the primary display area and displays data originating from a second operating system in the secondary display area.
