Abstract: An apparatus and method for automatically adding a received image to a phonebook of a portable wireless terminal. In the method, an image is extracted from a received multimedia message when the multimedia message is received from a sender, the extracted image is added to a sender's image list of a phonebook, and an image most recently added to the sender's image list is read out and displayed when a call is received from the sender. Therefore, the latest image of the sender can be displayed when a call is received from the sender.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for automatically updating a registered image in a phonebook of a portable wireless terminal. In the method, it is performed if a sender's image is registered in phonebook entries when a multimedia message is received, if so, the registered image is displayed and a pop-up message is shown to ask for updating the registered image, and if the updating of the registered image is accepted, an image is extracted from the received multimedia message and the registered image is updated with the extracted image. Therefore, the inconvenience of the manual image registration in the phonebook can be eliminated, and the registered image in phonebook entries is also updated consistently with the latest image, such that the user can save the latest image of the message sender.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for calling using a hot-key function in a mobile terminal are disclosed. The apparatus includes a database for storing information of search subjects, a controller for mapping extracted search subjects from the database to the keys of keypad, respectively, in accordance with a predetermined mapping mode, a display for displaying the mapped search subjects, and a keypad for calling by selecting a key of keypad, which corresponds to the position of the search subject that a user chose, on the displayed window. The method comprises displaying search subjects on a window according to a predetermined mapping mode; and selecting a keypad key, corresponding to a desired position of the search subject, on the window.

Abstract: In a method for performing a function using a phone number in a mobile communication terminal that stores a plurality of phone numbers and includes at least one function key, an input of a phone number is received. An input of a function key is received. When the function is a message transmission function, the input phone number is input as a phone number of a message receiver, a message is edited, and the edited message is transmitted. When the function is a ring sound selection function, a ring sound corresponding to the input phone number is selected. When the function is a phone number image storage function, an image corresponding to the input phone number is captured, the captured image is mapped to the input phone number, and the captured image mapped to the input phone number is stored.

Abstract: Disclosed is method for searching for a telephone number and performing a function using the detected telephone number on a mobile terminal, which includes checking whether an input by a user in a standby mode is a number of consecutive digits, searching a telephone number database (DB) in the mobile terminal to detect and display telephone numbers having the inputted number of consecutive digits, searching the telephone number DB when the input by the user is a character or characters to detect and display telephone numbers of people having names corresponding to the inputted character or characters, displaying a menu of functions available using any of the displayed telephone numbers. The user can input a keyword for a telephone number in an idle state of the mobile terminal; without the need to select a separate menu for telephone number search.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for automatically locking a mobile terminal having functions, such as incoming and outgoing calls. The method includes the steps of setting an auto-lock time period to restrict the use of one or more predetermined functions; activating an auto-lock mode to restrict the use of the predetermined functions during the auto-lock time period; and inactivating the auto-lock mode after the auto-lock time period. The auto-lock mode for automatically locking functions of the mobile terminal can be set to be activated only during specified time or during all other times of the day according to the spatial and temporal patterns of the user's daily routine.

Abstract: A method and communication terminal apparatus for displaying a function in communication is disclosed that includes a display unit, a memory unit for storing and managing operation information including an additional function information and a function list in communication provided by the communication terminal apparatus. A main processing unit automatically reads the function list in communication stored in the memory unit and displays the list on the display unit when an operation mode of the communication terminal apparatus changes from a communication waiting mode to a communication mode. In the communication terminal apparatus, when an operation mode of the communication terminal apparatus changes to a communication mode, a function list in communication stored in advance is automatically read and then displayed.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for transmitting a common schedule message to a plurality of mobile terminals using a short message service (SMS) in a mobile terminal having an SMS function and a schedule function, and enabling a mobile terminal receiving the schedule message to record the received schedule message therein as a schedule. If a user selects a schedule transmission for transmitting a schedule registered in the mobile terminal to another mobile terminal, the mobile terminal converts a data format for the schedule into a data format of a schedule-recordable SMS message, and then transmits the schedule-recordable SMS message. To record a schedule, the mobile terminal receiving a schedule message converts a data format of the received SMS message into a format of schedule-recordable data and records the converted data therein as a schedule, if schedule recording is selected by the user.
