Publication number: 20240112871Abstract: Eyewear or other head-worn apparatus are fitted with an activation accessory that includes one or more switch elements integrated with or attached to a nose piece of the eyewear. The switch elements are communicably coupled to a processor-based controller so as to provide input signals to the controller responsive to wearer-initiated activations of the switch elements through interaction with a frame or temple piece of the eyewear. Upon receipt, the controller evaluates the input signals to determine whether or not they represent a command for the controlled device by assessing the input signals for a signal pattern indicative of such a command, and then, if the evaluation determines that the input signals do represent the command, issues the command to the controlled device. Otherwise the controller proceeds to receive and evaluate further input signals from the switch elements in a like manner as the first input signals.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2023Publication date: April 4, 2024Inventor: Jeremy B. Patent number: 11940133Abstract: A frame having a clip for securing the frame to an article of clothing or other object. The frame includes a mount for receiving a removable module and a rotatably attached clip. The clip includes an opening for accommodating sewing ribs between portions of a webbing and a gate (which may be a locking wire) moveable between an open position and a closed position at one end of the opening. In the open position, the locking wire removably engages one of a pair of elongated members defining the opening, e.g., by removably engaging that elongated member at a recess in an outside edge thereof, and does not obstruct the opening. When in the closed position, the locking wire removably engages the other of the elongated members, for example by removably engaging that other elongated member at a recess in its outside edge, and obstructs the longitudinal opening.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2022Date of Patent: March 26, 2024Assignee: First-Light USA, LLCInventors: Jeremy B. Ross, Blake S. Good, Jacob A. Flagle

Patent number: 11778428Abstract: Systems and methods for operating a controlled device via an activation accessory that includes a vibration motor, a wearable module including a clench-detection sensor (e.g., a Hall effect sensor), and a communication element. The sensor is coupled to a controller, which has an output coupled to a control signal interface and another output coupled to the vibration motor. The controller is programmed to receive and evaluate input signals from the sensor to determine whether or not they represent a command for the controlled device by assessing the input signals for a signal pattern indicative of a plurality of volitional jaw clench actions of a wearer of the wearable module. If/when the processor determines that the input signals represent the command, then it decodes the command and transmits an associated control signal to the controlled device via the control signal interface as well as an activation signal to the vibration motor.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2022Date of Patent: October 3, 2023Assignee: Hourglass Medical LLCInventors: Jeremy B. Publication number: 20230288047Abstract: Illumination devices as include a frame intended to be worn by a user and one or more light sources (e.g., LEDs) positioned by the frame so as to be near a user's zygomatic bones and oriented to project light in a direction of the user's view when the illumination device is worn on the wearer's head. The frame may be shaped to be worn over the user's ears and behind the user's head, and may be made of one or more of plastic, metal and/or a metal alloy, carbon fiber, wood, cellulose acetate, natural horn and/or bone, leather, and an epoxy resin. An optional strap may be retractably attached to connect portions of the frame over the wearer's head. The LEDs may be included in respective panels swivelly mounted to booms of the frame and the panels may further include imaging devices, such as a camera, and/or a projector.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2023Publication date: September 14, 2023Inventor: Jeremy B. Publication number: 20230280825Abstract: Systems and methods for operating a controlled device via an activation accessory of a wearable device that includes a moveable actuator, a sensor, and a communication element. The sensor is coupled to a controller, which has an output coupled to a control signal interface. The controller is programmed to receive and evaluate input signals from the sensor that are responsive to movements of the moveable actuator to determine whether or not they represent a command for the controlled device by assessing the input signals for a signal pattern indicative of a plurality of volitional actions of a wearer of the activation accessory. If/when the processor determines that the input signals represent the command, then it decodes the command and transmits an associated control signal to the controlled device via the control signal interface.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2023Publication date: September 7, 2023Inventor: Jeremy B. Publication number: 20230270187Abstract: A retention system for securing an article to a webbing or similar attachment system. The retention system includes one or more rigid or semi-rigid elongated members adapted to fit to said webbing, and including one or more attachment points adapted to receive a securing portion of said article. The members may be arranged as a pair thereof separated from one another by a longitudinal opening and joined to one another at one end of each of the members. A gate located near an open end of the longitudinal opening is positionable to selectively obstruct the open end of the longitudinal opening. The attachment points may be arranged, for example, along an exterior longitudinal edge of each respective elongated member.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 2, 2023Publication date: August 31, 2023Inventor: Jeremy B. Publication number: 20230244303Abstract: Systems for operating a controlled device via a wearable activation accessory that includes a sensor configured to detect relaxed and flexed conditions of muscles associated with clenching, flexing, and/or lateral displacement of a wearer's muscle, thereby allowing the wearer to generate control signals for a controlled element. The sensor is coupled to a controller, which has an output coupled to a control signal interface. The controller is programmed to receive and evaluate input signals from the sensor to determine whether or not they represent a command for the controlled device by assessing the input signals for a signal pattern indicative of a plurality of volitional muscle motion actions of a wearer of the wearable activation accessory. If/when the processor determines that the input signals represent a valid command, it decodes the command and transmits an associated control signal to the controlled device via the control signal interface.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 12, 2023Publication date: August 3, 2023Inventor: Jeremy B.
