Patent number: 8874395Abstract: Various arrangements for determining a voltage of a voltage source using pre-charging are presented. Such arrangements may include a measurement module which includes an analog to digital converter, a driver, and an interface. The interface may be electrically coupled with the analog to digital converter and the driver. The driver may be configured to output current to charge a capacitor. After a first predefined period of time, the driver may stop outputting current to pre-charge the capacitor. After the driver has stopped pre-charging the capacitor and a second predefined period of time has elapsed, the analog to digital converter may be configured to measure a voltage of the capacitor. Such arrangements may include a capacitor, wherein the capacitor is electrically coupled with the interface of the measurement module.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2011Date of Patent: October 28, 2014Assignee: Echostar Technologies L.L.C.Inventor: Jeremy Mickelsen

Publication number: 20130057778Abstract: A television service provider system includes a first set top box, a second set top box, and a remote control. The remote control transmits an infrared pairing signal which is only received by one of the set top boxes. The receiving set top box pairs itself to the remote control. The non receiving set top box is not paired to the remote control. The remote control then transmits control signals to operate the receiving set top box. The control signals are received by both set top boxes, but are executed only by the set top box that is paired to the remote control.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2011Publication date: March 7, 2013Applicant: ECHOSTAR TECHNOLOGIES L.L.C.Inventors: Nathan Hale, Adam Schafer, Jeremy Mickelsen, David Innes, William Reams

Patent number: 8344859Abstract: A method of changing an association of a remote control device from a first electronic device to a second electronic device is presented. In the method, a command for an electronic device is generated and transmitted by the remote control device. At this point, the remote control device is associated with the first electronic device to control the first electronic device, and the remote control device is not associated with the second electronic device. If an acknowledgment of the command is not received, a request to associate the remote control device with another electronic device is transmitted. A reply to the request is then received from the second electronic device. In response to the reply, the remote control device is disassociated from the first electronic device and associated with the second electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2009Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: EchoStar Technologies L.L.C.Inventors: William Reams, Nathan Alexander Hale, Jeremy Mickelsen, David A. Publication number: 20120162085Abstract: A keyboard is able to illuminate particular keys and to detect keypresses in an efficient manner. The keys of the array are logically arranged into one or more two-dimensional arrays (e.g., row/column arrays) so that the illumination and keypress detection functions share a common set of electrical signal lines in one dimension of the array. By coupling both the lights and the key actuation switches of each key to a common set of signal lines in one dimension, the number of signal lines used in the keyboard can be reduced.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2010Publication date: June 28, 2012Applicant: ECHOSTAR TECHNOLOGIES LLCInventors: Jeremy Mickelsen, Alex Lammers

Publication number: 20110208456Abstract: A microcontroller-based electronic device and its operating methods are operable to learn a critical voltage value for a microprocessor control unit residing in the microcontroller-based electronic device. The microprocessor control unit receives power from a battery. An exemplary embodiment detects an operating voltage provided to the microprocessor control unit by a supplemental power reservoir after removal of the battery, stores information corresponding to a value of the operating voltage in a nonvolatile memory, repeats the detecting and the saving information as the operating voltage decays in response to a discharge of the supplemental power reservoir, and determines the actual minimum operating voltage for the microprocessor control unit based on a last one of the stored information corresponding to the value of the operating voltage. A learned critical voltage value is based upon the defined actual minimum operating voltage.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2010Publication date: August 25, 2011Applicant: ECHOSTAR TECHNOLOGIES L.L.C.Inventor: Jeremy Mickelsen
