Patent number: 10171466Abstract: A wireless system receives a registration from a user device and transfers a request for the user device to an authorization server. The authorization server authorizes a user session for the user device and transfers a common identifier for the user session to the wireless system. The wireless system receives the common identifier and transfers a registration for the user device to an application node. The application node receives the registration and transfers a request for the user device to the authorization server. The authorization server authorizes a user application for the user device and transfers the common identifier for the user application to the application node. The wireless communication system tracks the user session and transfers user session data records having the common identifier. The application node tracks the user application and transfers user application data records having the common identifier.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2014Date of Patent: January 1, 2019Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Gary Joel Rieschick, Jeremy R. Patent number: 10111088Abstract: A user, identified by a network access identifier (NAI) or other user identifier, uses a communication device, identified by a hostname or other device identifier. An Internet Protocol (IP) address is obtained for the communication device, e.g., when the user logs in for access to a packet-switched network. An association between the IP address and the hostname is registered in a domain name server. An association between the user identifier and the hostname is registered in an RWHOIS server. An application may query the RWHOIS server to determine the hostname of the communication device being used by the user and then query the domain name server to determine the IP address of the communication device.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2014Date of Patent: October 23, 2018Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Lyle T. Patent number: 9769113Abstract: Systems and methods for assigning unique network identifiers in a packet-switched wireless network are provided. A request for a unique network identifier for a wireless device is received. A socket-based unique network identifier, including an IP address and one or more ports, is assigned to the wireless device. The unique network identifier is created by combining an IP address and one or more ports. This allows multiple unique network identifiers to be created from a single IP address, where each unique network identifier consists of the same IP address combined with a different group of one or more ports.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2015Date of Patent: September 19, 2017Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Jeremy R. Patent number: 9215253Abstract: A method and corresponding device and system to provide a real-time call announcement to a called device. According to the method, a called device begins receiving call announcement media without having first engaged in session setup signaling to set up a session through which to receive the call announcement media. In normal operation, the device would disregard such incoming media, since no session has been set up for receiving the media. As disclosed, however, the device will also receive at about the same time a call setup request that seeks setup of the underlying call, and the device will treat its receipt of that call setup request as a key to allow playout of the call announcement media even though no session has been set up for receipt of the call announcement media. The called device will then play out the call announcement media as an announcement for the call.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2013Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Jeremy R. Breau, Jason R. Delker, Manish Mangal, Mathew Oommen

Patent number: 9154993Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for an optimized mobile-IPv6 encapsulation. A mobile node sends packets to a correspondent node by encapsulating a packet using an IPv6 routing extension header, and reverse tunneling the packet to a home agent. The home agent modifies the packet and forwards it to the correspondent node. When the correspondent node sends packets to the mobile node's home address, the home agent intercepts the packet, encapsulates the packet with an IPv6 routing extension header, and tunnels the packet to the mobile node. Consequently, because packets are tunneled using IPv6 routing extension headers, the amount of overhead in each encapsulated packet is reduced, thus increasing the available bandwidth in a network.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2014Date of Patent: October 6, 2015Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Jeremy R. Patent number: 9154911Abstract: A wireless communication system generates operating information indicating if a monitoring wireless communication device is in active mode or in idle mode for a wireless data service. The wireless system receives location information that indicates geographic locations of a monitored wireless communication device for delivery to the monitoring wireless communication device. The system stores the location information if the monitoring wireless communication device is in idle mode. The system wirelessly transfers the location information to the monitoring wireless communication device if the monitoring wireless communication device is in active mode. If the monitoring wireless communication device transitions from idle mode to active mode and has stored location information, the system generates summary location data for the monitored wireless communication device based on the stored location information and wirelessly transfers the summary location data to the monitoring wireless communication device.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2014Date of Patent: October 6, 2015Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Douglas R. Green, Jeremy R. Breau

Patent number: 9143482Abstract: Methods for marking and verifying an authentication status of a wireless communication device are disclosed. When a wireless communication device is authenticated in a first wireless communication network, copies of a token, are stored in memory accessible by the wireless communication device and in memory accessible by a clearinghouse server. The clearinghouse server also stores a correlation between the token and the identity of the server that authenticated the wireless communication device. When the wireless communication device moves from the first network to a second network, the WCD transmits the token to a server in the second network, which can then query the clearinghouse server to determine the identity of the server that authenticated the WCD in the first network, confirm the authentication status of the wireless communication device, and allow the WCD to access a resource in or via the second network.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 2009Date of Patent: September 22, 2015Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Jeremy R. Patent number: 9107134Abstract: A wireless communication device comprises a processing system and a communication transceiver. The processing system is configured to determine a location and a velocity of the wireless communication device. The communication transceiver is configured to monitor an RF signal between the wireless communication device and a wireless access node to detect a reduction in RF signal quality. If the reduction in the RF signal quality is detected, the processing system is configured to process the location to determine if the wireless communication device is proximate to an edge sector of the wireless access node, and if so, process the velocity to determine if the wireless communication device is moving towards the wireless access node. The processing system is configured to inhibit a handoff to another wireless access node if the wireless communication device is moving towards the wireless access node, but if not moving towards the wireless access node, to initiate the handoff to the other wireless access node.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2011Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: John Eric Belser, Jeremy R.
