  • Patent number: 8493950
Abstract: Wireless networks comprise base stations that each have communication ports. The wireless networks exchange media with user devices through the communication ports. The wireless networks are identified by Ethernet OUIs, and the base stations and ports are identified by unique codes. An Ethernet backhaul network exchanges the media in Ethernet frames between the communication ports. The Ethernet backhaul network routes the Ethernet frames based on MAC addresses that indicate a destination OUI, a destination base station code, a destination port code, a source OUI, a source base station code, and a source port code.

  • Patent number: 8478891
Abstract: Computer systems, computer-readable media, and computerized methods for determining a media access (MAC) address that corresponds with a network identifier in a wireless or wired network are provided. A dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) server is employed to allocate a set of socket IP addresses that include a common IPv4 address paired with a selected group of ports, where none of the ports in the selected groups overlap. When assigned to a client device, the socket IP address uniquely identifies the client device within the network. A host device within the network is configured to broadcast an address resolution protocol (ARP) request to other devices within the network, such as the DHCP server, where the ARP request includes a socket IP address associated with recipient(s) of communications from the host device. In response to the ARP request, the appropriate device or DHCP server returns a MAC address of the recipient.

  • Patent number: 8441962
Abstract: A method and corresponding device and system to provide a real-time call announcement to a called device. According to the method, a called device begins receiving call announcement media without having first engaged in session setup signaling to set up a session through which to receive the call announcement media. In normal operation, the device would disregard such incoming media, since no session has been set up for receiving the media. As disclosed, however, the device will also receive at about the same time a call setup request that seeks setup of the underlying call, and the device will treat its receipt of that call setup request as a key to allow playout of the call announcement media even though no session has been set up for receipt of the call announcement media. The called device will then play out the call announcement media as an announcement for the call.

  • Patent number: 8422415
Abstract: A method, system, and computer-readable media are provided for maintaining optimized communication after a mobile device transitions to a new foreign agent during a communication session. When a mobile device moves to and registers with a new foreign agent within a communication session, the mobile device's home agent multicasts a message to all foreign agents within an optimization cluster informing them of the updated registration. Accordingly, the foreign agents within the optimization cluster can proceed to transmit data packets directly to the new foreign agent servicing the mobile device within the communication session.

  • Patent number: 8411666
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for routing data, such as a packet, from a source router to a destination router based on geographical information associated with a destination mobile device. A table is accessed to determine whether there is a destination router located in the list of routers that is located within the same geographical area as the destination mobile device. If there is a destination router that meets this criteria, the data is sent to the destination router. But if there is not a destination router that meets this criteria, the data is routed based on network topology.

  • Patent number: 8356343
Abstract: A method, system, and computer-readable medium are provided for maintaining a network session between a network element and a network despite the need to reauthenticate the network element. A computer-implemented method is provided for authenticating a network element to a network. According to this method, an authentication request is transmitted to the network element. In response, the network element provides identifying information for a home agent that previously routed messages to the network element. The identifying information is then used to generate a mobility key. Later, when a network registration request message is received on behalf of the network element, the generated key is used to validate the request.

  • Patent number: 8326305
Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for selectively pre-registering a data path for a mobile station. In an embodiment, a serving base station receives a mobile-originated handoff-request message from a mobile station, wherein the mobile-originated handoff-request message identifies one or more target base stations. The serving base station then responsively determines whether to instruct each respective target base station to pre-register a data path for the mobile station. The serving base station then sends a respective serving-to-target handoff-request message to each identified target base station, indicating whether the serving base station is instructing that target base station to pre-register a data path for the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 8305963
Abstract: Methods are provided for facilitating local communication between wireless devices at a femto cell without passing communication to a network infrastructure, routing data packets to devices connected to a femto cell, and eliminating a need to send data to a home agent when two devices are connected to the same femto cell. When mobile devices are in a femto cell zone, it is not necessary to send payload information to a core network including a packet data serving node and a home agent. A femto cell local breakout with a PPP proxy can be used to handle the payload information locally. The femto cell local breakout with PPP proxy stores the mobile devices and IP addresses. So, when one mobile device in the femto cell zone sends payload information to another mobile device, the femto cell routes the payload information to the other mobile device in the femto cell zone.
