Patent number: 7924738Abstract: A first block of packets is sent through a network at a first throughput rate. The first block of packets has a differential treatment field set to a first value. A second block of packets is sent through the network at a second throughput rate. The second block of packets has the differential treatment field set to a second value. A first report indicating that the reception of the first block of packets satisfies a criteria is received. A second report indicating that the reception of the second block of packets satisfies the criteria is received. A treatment field value for the differential treatment field is selected based on the first report and the second report. A packet with the differential treatment field set to the treatment field value is sent to the network.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2008Date of Patent: April 12, 2011Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Jeremy R. Patent number: 7916721Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for a home address subnet assignment for IPv6 bootstrapping. When a mobile-IPv6 router bootstraps, it receives a home address subnet prefix address (HoAp). The mobile-IPv6 router includes the HoAp and the mobile-IPv6 router's care-of address in a binding update, and sends the binding update to a home agent. The home agent associates the HoAp with the mobile-IPv6 router's care-of address. Thus, whenever the home agent receives a packet sent to an address with the same prefix as the HoAp, the home agent will forward the packet to the care-of address of the mobile-IPv6 router.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2007Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Jeremy R. Patent number: 7907616Abstract: Computer-readable media for dynamic quality of service assignment are described. In embodiments, a data packet is received that is part of a communications stream and a dynamically modifiable quality of service indicator (DMQOSI) is embedded into the data packet wherein, in various embodiments, the DMQOSI indicates a prescribed quality of service that is associated with the data packet and is modifiable prior to completing a communication of the communications stream. In various embodiments, the data packet is communicated from a source to a destination that at least periodically references the DMQOSI to ensure that the data packet is being communicated consistent with the prescribed quality of service associated with the data packet.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2007Date of Patent: March 15, 2011Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Jeremy R. Publication number: 20110021198Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for selectively pre-registering a data path for a mobile station. In an embodiment, a serving base station receives a mobile-originated handoff-request message from a mobile station, wherein the mobile-originated handoff-request message identifies one or more target base stations. The serving base station then responsively determines whether to instruct each respective target base station to pre-register a data path for the mobile station. The serving base station then sends a respective serving-to-target handoff-request message to each identified target base station, indicating whether the serving base station is instructing that target base station to pre-register a data path for the mobile station.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2009Publication date: January 27, 2011Applicant: Clear Wireless LLCInventors: Jeremy R. Publication number: 20110022504Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for establishing a data-path between a mobile station and a home access service network gateway (“ASN-GW”). During the authentication process, a visited ASN-GW receives a first message that identifies a home ASN-GW associated with the mobile station. After the mobile station has been authenticated, the visited ASN-GW receives a first data-path request message from a base station serving the mobile station, requesting a path for data-packet communication for the mobile station that extends between base station and the visited ASN-GW. The visited ASN-GW responsively uses the received identification to send a second data-path request message to the home ASN-GW which requests a path for data-packet communication that extends between the base station and the home ASN-GW. Once the data-path has been established, the home ASN-GW may monitor and/or place restrictions on the data being transmitted to and from the mobile stations.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2009Publication date: January 27, 2011Applicant: CLEAR WIRELESS LLCInventors: Jeremy R. Patent number: 7876728Abstract: A method, system, and computer-readable media are provided for maintaining optimized communication after a mobile device transitions to a new foreign agent during a communication session. When a mobile device moves to and registers with a new foreign agent within a communication session, the mobile device's home agent multicasts a message to all foreign agents within an optimization cluster informing them of the updated registration. Accordingly, the foreign agents within the optimization cluster can proceed to transmit data packets directly to the new foreign agent servicing the mobile device within the communication session.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2007Date of Patent: January 25, 2011Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Jeremy R. Patent number: 7769035Abstract: Techniques are provided for facilitating a channel change between multiple data streams. Such techniques provide for receiving and processing a first stream of data packets within a buffer. The method also includes receiving buffer control header with a data packet of a second stream. The buffer control header includes a buffer clearance indicator that indicates whether the second data stream request for the first data stream to be cleared from the buffer. Moreover, the method includes clearing the first data stream from the buffer based on the buffer clearance indicator. Furthermore, the method includes immediately processing the second stream through the buffer once the first stream is cleared.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2007Date of Patent: August 3, 2010Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Jeremy R. Publication number: 20090037595Abstract: A method and system are provided to select a communication version. An embodiment of the method includes obtaining destination host address associated with a destination host attribute, such a domain name. Thereafter, an address version for each destination host address is identified. Upon identifying address versions for each destination host address, it is determined if the destination host address is associated with a preferred address version. In such an instance where the destination host address is associated with a preferred address version, such as Internet Protocol version 6, a corresponding communication version is selected.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 31, 2007Publication date: February 5, 2009Applicant: SPRINT COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY L.P.Inventors: JEREMY R. Publication number: 20080181216Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for an optimized mobile-IPv6 encapsulation. A mobile node sends packets to a correspondent node by encapsulating a packet using an IPv6 routing extension header, and reverse tunneling the packet to a home agent. The home agent modifies the packet and forwards it to the correspondent node. When the correspondent node sends packets to the mobile node's home address, the home agent intercepts the packet, encapsulates the packet with an IPv6 routing extension header, and tunnels the packet to the mobile node. Consequently, because packets are tunneled using IPv6 routing extension headers, the amount of overhead in each encapsulated packet is reduced, thus increasing the available bandwidth in a network.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 30, 2007Publication date: July 31, 2008Applicant: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Jeremy R.
