  • Publication number: 20140023441
Abstract: The invention relates to a submersible module for anchoring equipment, such as underwater turbines, to the sea bed. The module includes a base member for attaching the equipment thereto and a boundary layer fairing which diverts a boundary layer component of the water flow over the module. This accelerates the boundary layer water flow over the module in order to produce a hydrodynamic anchoring force on the module. Methods of installing the equipment to the sea bed are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8374759
Abstract: A method of controlling a vehicle powertrain having an automatic transmission coupled to an engine through a lock-up torque converter includes determining when a torque converter unlock is imminent during a deceleration fuel shut-off event, and delaying the resumption of fuel flow to the engine for a calibratable time period to reduce the likelihood of an undesirable increase in engine output torque when the torque converter has not fully transitioned to an unlocked state. The method also includes determining whether one or more breakout conditions exist that require enabling fuel flow to the engine and, perhaps, triggering an active unlocking of the lock-up torque converter.

  • Publication number: 20130032594
Abstract: One example embodiment includes a cover plate for an electrical receptacle. The cover plate includes a first conducting strip. The first conducting strip protrudes rearward from the cover plate and is configured to contact a first terminal of a receptacle, where the first terminal connects the receptacle to a power source. The cover plate also includes a first insulating means, where the first insulating means prevents the first conducting strip from contacting other conducting materials. The cover plate further includes a second conducting strip. The second conducting strip protrudes rearward from the cover plate and is configured to contact a second terminal of the receptacle, where the second terminal completes the connection of the receptacle to the power source. The cover plate additionally includes a second insulating means, where the second insulating means prevents the second conducting strip from contacting other conducting materials. The cover plate also includes a load.

  • Publication number: 20120025531
Abstract: The present invention is a device for converting rotational energy into useable power by buffering the created rotational energy from the rotational energy used to create the output power. Thus, in one embodiment, a pendulum within a buoy is used to create rotational energy from ocean wave movement and the created rotational energy then drives a hydraulic pump which in turn drives a hydraulic motor to create a second rotational force which is then used to create an electrical output. In this manner, the hydraulic fluid acts as the buffer between the wave-created rotational energy and the rotational energy actually used to create the output electricity.

  • Publication number: 20070153444
Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for controlling a clutch associated with a solenoid using a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal, which keeps the current through the coil constant over a wide temperature range and fluctuations in line voltage. The system may include a voltage source, a switch (such as a FET), a current sensor, and a processor. The system controls the clutch by sampling the voltage source, sampling the current measured by the current sensor, and computing a duty cycle, which is then used to generate a PWM control signal.

  • Publication number: 20070142167
Abstract: A method for controlling a rate of change of speed ratios in a continuously variable transmission (CVT) includes sensing a vehicle speed, sensing an engine speed, and sensing a change in a position of an accelerator pedal. The method includes determining a desired engine speed based on said change in said position of said accelerator pedal, said vehicle speed, and said engine speed. The method includes increasing a target engine speed at a first rate to a predetermined value, wherein said target engine speed corresponds to a speed ratio. The method includes measuring a difference between said target engine speed that is held at said predetermined value and an actual engine speed, and increasing said target engine speed to said desired engine speed at a second rate when said difference substantially equals a predetermined threshold, wherein said second rate is less than said first rate.

  • Publication number: 20070015562
Abstract: A game for a set of participants has a deck with cards of n suits, each uniquely identified according to a player position in a team sport. There are m cards within each suit, each of the m cards assigned to one of a set of m sports teams, and assigned to a sports player selected from the sports team who has the player position corresponding to the suit. For each suit, there is one card in the deck associated with each of the m sports teams within the suit. The deck has at least n times m cards. The card for each sports player has a point value according to sports game statistics during a specified time period. The value of the cards of a participant is determined according to both the combination of sports teams in the hand and the point values for one or more cards.

  • Publication number: 20070007094
Abstract: A suitcase and desk combination device includes a housing that has a bottom wall, a top wall and a peripheral wall that is attached to and extends between the top and bottom walls. The peripheral wall has a break therein and that defines an opening for accessing an interior of the housing. The bottom wall has a bottom edge, a top edge, a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge. The bottom wall is substantially planar. Each of a plurality of legs extends into the top wall. Each of the legs has a free end and each of the legs is selectively telescoping so that the free ends may be selectively positionable in a stored position adjacent to the top wall or in an extended position extending away from the top wall.

  • Publication number: 20060274473
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for determining efficacy of stress protection circuitry. The methods and systems employ a ring oscillator that models at least one parameter of a functional circuit to be protected by the stress protection circuit. A stress signal is applied to the ring oscillator and parametric degradation is measured to determine the effectiveness of the stress protection circuit in protecting the ring oscillator. A stress signal can be a voltage or current that stresses the normal operation of a functional circuit. The parametric degradation of the ring oscillator can be correlated to the parametric degradation that would be experienced by the functional circuit.

  • Publication number: 20060182249
Abstract: A conferencing system provides the scheduling of virtual meetings with meeting lobbies so that a meeting presenter can conduct a virtual meeting without the need to send out invitations to attendees. A person that wants to conduct a virtual meeting can schedule with the conferencing system a meeting with a meeting lobby. The meeting lobby has an address, but there is no associated privileged information, such as a meeting password. Would-be meeting attendees use the meeting lobby address to enter the meeting lobby as visitors in the lobby, and request to enter the meeting from the meeting lobby. A meeting presenter can then either grant authorization for a visitor in the meeting lobby to enter the meeting, or deny authorization for a visitor in the meeting lobby to enter the meeting. If a visitor in the meeting lobby is denied authorization to enter the meeting from the meeting lobby, the conferencing system removes the visitor from the meeting lobby.
