  • Patent number: 5133672
Abstract: An electrical terminal is provided for insulation displacement termination of an electrical wire having a conductor core surrounded by an insulating sleeve. The terminal includes a forward mating end for engaging a complementary terminal and a rear terminating end for terminating the electrical wire. The rear terminating end includes at least a forward insulation displacement section, a forward strain relief section behind the forward insulation displacement section, a rear insulation displacement section behind the forward strain relief section, and a rear strain relief section behind the rear insulation displacement section. The rear terminating end of the terminal is generally U-shaped defining a bottom wall and space side walls. The strain relief sections are formed out of the spaced side walls, and the insulation displacement sections are formed out of the bottom wall.

  • Patent number: 5125846
Abstract: An electrical connector is provided for electrically coupling a plurality of conductors of different configuration with an electronic component. A plurality of insulation displacement terminals and a plurality of surface terminating terminals are provided for use with the connector assembly. A common housing mounts the electronic component and has channels for locating a plurality of discrete insulated conductor wires and a surface area for interfacing with a substrate having a plurality of surface conductors thereon. The housing includes a plurality of first receptacles for selectively receiving the insulation displacement terminals for termination to the insulated conductor wires and electrically coupling the wires to the electronic component, and a plurality of second receptacles for, alternatively, receiving the surface terminating terminals in termination with the conductors on the substrate and electrically coupling the conductors to the electronic component.

  • Patent number: 5118306
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly is provided for terminating a multi-conductor cable. The assembly includes a conductive guide member having a plurality of channels for positioning the conductors of the multi-conductor cable whereby the conductors can be trimmed along an edge of the guide member. A cover member is profiled for engagement with the conductor guide member, with a portion of the cover member covering exposed ends of the trimmed conductors. A base assembly mounts a plurality of terminals and is profiled for aligning the terminals for termination to respective conductors when the base assembly is assembled with the conductor guide member and cover member. The cover member is sandwiched between the conductive guide member and the base assembly and includes a plurality of apertures through which the terminals project for termination to the conductors. The connector includes a conductive backshell formed by a pair of backshell halves.
