Patent number: 11814935Abstract: Implementations described and claimed herein provide systems and methods for increasing accuracy of firing perforating charges in an oil well casing. In one implementation, a body of an orientation device has a first portion and a second portion. An opening extends through a center of the body from a first lateral surface to a second lateral surface, and the opening is configured to receive a perforating gun string. An outer perimeter surface extends about the center of the body from the first lateral surface to the second lateral surface. The outer perimeter surface has a first shape associated with the first portion and a second shape associated with the second portion. The second shape forms a base portion configured to maintain the perforating gun string in an orientation by preventing rotation of the perforating gun string. The orientation corresponds to a predetermined perforating charge direction of the perforating gun string.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2022Date of Patent: November 14, 2023Assignee: ConocoPhillips CompanyInventors: Jesse J. Publication number: 20100139909Abstract: An intelligent well system can service three or more zones that have gravel packed screens. A modular system features a screen and a surface controlled production valve on an internal blank pipe that internally straddles the screen. A gravel exit valve is disposed above the blank pipe and the blank pipe can optionally have a fluid loss control valve. A gravel pack/fracturing assembly can engage each module and close the fluid loss valve and gravel outlet valve on the way out of a module. Optionally the fluid loss valve can be eliminated if the gravel packing and fracturing string has the ability to power the production valve. The modules can be connected by wet connects as can the production string to make the intelligent well system functional from the surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 4, 2008Publication date: June 10, 2010Inventors: Ricardo A. Patent number: 5678633Abstract: A shifting tool is provided which is preferably hydraulically actuated. A built-up hydraulic force overcomes a retaining piston, which, in turn, frees up a pivoting linkage whose movements are opposed by a coil spring. The coil spring urges the pivoting linkage outwardly where contact can be made with the internal groove on a shifting sleeve. The shifting tool can be run in with the linkage in the expanded position since the parts are configured to allow the linkage to retract to clear any internal obstructions before reaching the shifting grooves in the shifting sleeve. The pivoting action of the grip on the groove in the shifting sleeve increases the gripping force when jarring occurs. The parts are configured so that there is a minimum of movement of shifting parts which have seals to further reduce potential wear on pressure seals. A compact design is provided which can be useful on sleeves with a range of internal bores.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1995Date of Patent: October 21, 1997Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventor: Jesse J. Constantine, Jr.

Patent number: 5636694Abstract: The invention allows downhole shifting of one or more sleeves, having the same or different dimensions, while running a running tool on coiled tubing. The power stroker feature anchors the running tool to the body of the sleeve housing for proper orientation. Hydraulic pressure is used to stroke the sleeve. A feedback feature is provided to determine from the surface whether the sleeve has fully shifted. The stroking components are resettable upon withdrawal of hydraulic pressure and an emergency shear release is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1995Date of Patent: June 10, 1997Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Hector H. Mireles, Jr., Jesse J. Constantine, Jr.
